Well, I thought it was 100% Carbon until this happened:

Can anyone enlighten me as to how the swingarm is built? I'd like to know, just for piece of mind like...

metal inserts in carbon is common practice

Thats paint chipped off metal though, right? Note also there is no HM Carbon weave effect as there is on the rest of the swingarm.

Can't answer your question, but how did it happen if you don't mind me asking? I love my ASR5 but I do worry about the swingarm when there's rocks flying around.

BTW there's some swingarm's going for a reasonable price on the yetifan site if you're interested (no connection).

I'd expect it is carbon with ally inserts bonded in.
Quite common with all manufacturers.

My road bike fell on it -the pedal hit the swingarm.

Its not terminal, its just paint.... isn't it? (Please?) *crosses fingers*

Yup ally stiffening yokes are used if you read some of the review blurb on t'interweb. Reasuringly they mention the main design priority was stiffness over lightweight. Hopefully that means a bit more strength too!

Bump, for (hopefully) some more wisdom that leads to confidence...

paint has chipped off an alu insert, what more wisdom do you want?

No one really confirmed that did they, or how relevant it might be to the strength of a (carbon) swingarm...

Having seen what happened to a friends ASR-5, the swingarm appears to be made of cheese and the main triangle blancmange ๐Ÿ˜€ replaced with an all alloy 575 under warranty

See pinkbike review for mention of the (hollowed out) ally sections...

http://www.pinkbike.com/news/yeti-asr5-carbon-test-2011.html

... mind your eyes tho.

The stw massive might be able to reassure you its ok (depending on what you believe).

For assurance I guess it is back to Yeti (or silverfish) with some pics for their comment.
