Have to say I've never heard of them despite being in the Army for the past seven years!

I had them issued in basic training wore them once, where sh1t gave me blisters.

Yes they work pretty well, quite bulky, need a liner sock to go with them will leak eventually but your foot stays warm.

i've had some for years ..bought from local army surplus . prefer them to my sealskins tbh.

IMO yes, if it's cold thick sock if it's just wet a thin one but always something, but I've never had cold feet in them (as long as the shoes you put them in are not too tight obliviously), spent all day trapesing about in the snow.
