So, just took delivery of a nice, used Stache (thanks Ton) quick ride up the road, did a bunny hop, landed on a nail. Sealant flying out everywhere and a sizeable hole in the tyre 😮

Hoping to get out this weekend, so can anybody recommend a good 29+ front tyre. Looking at a Dirt Wizard

Any help really appreciated as I know nothing about plus tyres.

The bike seems great from the two minute ride up the road 😐

Thanks igm. Anybody have tyre recommendations should I fail to repair. I know "what tyre" is an utter cliche, but would really appreciate any recommendations or ones to avoid.

I don't know if they are what you need, but Chain Reaction are selling
Maxxis Chronicles for £43.99 (buy 2 and get a further £10 off using their code CLEAR2017).

According to the product description, this is the 120tpi EXO TR version, although I note in the Q&A section, CRC said this was not the tubeless ready version, but that was 7 months ago - I presume they are now using the same webpage to sell the EXO TR version.

How big is "sizeable"? can't imagine that a nail would cause a hole that a normal tubeless plug wouldn't sort

It's more like a small tear than a hole. I'll pop to the LBS after work tomorrow and pick up a repair kit. I'm probably going to get new tyres any way as I've read the chuppacabra are not great. I'll have to read up on what's good in the semi fat world

Thanks for the replies 😀

If it's in the tread and you've not already decided to get a new tyre, the weldtite tubeless patches are brilliant. Mine held a half inch tear in the sidewall without issue

Brilliant! They're in stock at my local Evans too. Saves me buying a tyre until I've tested the chuppacabra off road.

Will probably get a dirt wizard eventually as Peaks / Macc Forest is my local riding and is never dry. Whilst I'm at it, any recommendations for rear tyres?

Thanks all

I would def give the chapacrasasssass a chance first. I now have x2 semi fats as they suit my riding perfectly. My stache is running a vee bulldozer on front and chapucra at back. Tried the chronicles but found them draggy and slow.

The chapucra tyres are very sensitive to pressure.... 1 to 2 psi out of the sweet spot and they either squirm like a baby or are too solid. I find around 12-14 psi works best for me rigid Or little less in bouncy mode (more like 11psi).

The grip from the chapucra is amazing considering the small block tyre tread (not sure what rubber compound is used but that's what gives the tyre it's traction). Rolls really fast.

Oh and with regards to what tyre.... The next tyre I will try is the minion 29x3"

The minion was outstanding on my 26" bouncer, so no reason to doubt it will work brilliantly on the plus platform.

It is around £79.99 though which is crazy money. More than I just paid for a mid range car tyre.

Used to run a 26 minion on my Bfe, a brilliant tyre. I'll attempt to patch the chuppacabra and take the bike for a blast around Macc Forest or Roman lakes at the weekend.

The tyre prices did make me flinch 🙂
