I always liked Pikes apart from their weight

I think they're more like coil Revelations.

The RL models are just compression to lockout adjustment with no gate function.

Yup, the Rev's 'replaced' the pikes, I always like the feel of pikes, but the weight put me off, at least my Z1's looked heavy, the pikes just looked weedy and seemed silly spending money to upgrade to something that wasnt much lighter.

Got an intchy finger over the buy button on a new Pitch now..........

LOco - have you got a set of solo airs you could measure like that?

Haven't got any solo airs in at the moment I'm afraid, but can get hold of them pretty quick, Have Rev dual air rlt ti 150mm if you like, but not really a fair comparison.

No, if you did that I'd be tempted to spend more than I can afford.

Pikes aren't THAT heavy IMHO.

I have three pairs, 454 Air, 409 Coil and 426 Air plus a 2010 Revelation Maxle.

The 454 Air is just under three quarters of a pound heavier than the Revs, but in terms of stiffness it feels like it's in a different league. To get much stiffer you're going to have to make the jump to a 160mm fork at considerably more cost for similar weight.

I use PIKE 454 Coil U-Turn, never found them that heavy.

I think a lot of this weight obsession stuff is just getting out of hand now. My hardtail weighs a little over 30lbs all told, never had any trouble riding it up hills. It's always amusing when you hear 15/16 stone guys chatting about the latest ultra lightweight components when the same effect could be achieved by foregoing that second doughnut!

Unless you're competing in XC races at a high level it just doesn't matter.

Here lies true wisdom.

Anyone with coil sektors want to swap for rev air race 2010 (with maxle)?

Is that all there is to it? Lighter bikes ride differently down as well. I've just put my lighter kit on the Hemlock and it's a far more responsive ride and easier to maneouvre. Course, that can go both ways.

Anyway, without dragging this into another endless weightweenie debate, one of the changes I did was to swap my coil Lyriks with my Revelations, which knocks something like 650g off the front end IIRC, and makes a really big difference to the way it handles because of the location of the weight.

Not going to say which way is better, it's a matter of taste I think but personally I like a lighter bike- I'm a light and not particularily strong rider so I can boss a light bike in a way I can't on a heavier one.

They feel like the next generation solo air long travel forks

I had 100mm 08 recons before and now with 150 sektors on another steel frame bike. Just feel really good. Haven't needed to do any messing about with compression or air guides being crap. I trust the air guides and so far they have felt awesome. Can't fault them at all.

They even look really good!

Can't justify revelation or fox prices but I'm so glad I went for 2011 forks!!
