I've revelation 130mm forks on my Rootdown..

Lack of lockout is annoying, but not critical..

Having seen the Pikes for £499 of late, with 130-160mm dual lposition and the RCT3 lockout, I was a BIT tempted...

But, are they worth £300 extra (assuming I'd sell the revs for £200)??

No.

I have a set of 140 revs and a set of 140 likes. The pikes are a bit stiffer, but there's virtually no difference in damping performance.

I'd not buy another set of pikes with Reva so cheap.

Seems sensible scienceofficer...

I just need a way of getting crown lockout on it (it's currently a poplock bodged into open with some gear cable...)

Excellent on a short/mid travel 29er (is that what your bike is?)

Not so amazing on a 160mm 650b, IMO. Just 'cos the flex starts to show a bit and the suspension's working harder.

TFTuned (& others i'm sure) can sell you a RLT compression damping unit for £80ish. Plug & play (having checked your oil height).

On the flip side I refitted an older 20mm Rev while my Pike went on a little holiday and thought it was a real step backwards.
Almost made me not want to ride the bike.

Mine does have the latest rapid recovery and rct3 dampers in it mind, even if the chassis is a bit older. It's also better with the right no. of tokens in it.

They are once you've set them up, and they do need to be fiddled with to get that right. (more than any other fork I've owned) They take a bit of bedding in as well.

But, once they're there, they are pretty damned good.

For me LSC and the stiffness was worth the price extra. I hated the divey Revs i had.

DrP, I have Pike on my Rootdown.

It's the right fork for the bike in my opinion.

As others have said they take a bit of fiddling but you can get theem set up perfectly. The tokens are key. I have 4 in mine. Would fit another if I had one kicking about. You can get them set up nice a plush off the top but then ramping up nicely through the stroke. The damper has been sort of set and forget for me, controlled on the rebound and with the right amount of LSC support.

I have used Rev RLT and old Pikes on 26er hardtailsand never got them to feel quite right.

I'm going to give Pikes another whirl. I just love the stiffness of 350's but I'm put off by stanchion/bushes issue and my 350Rs are crying out for a service

Just switched my 2014 140mm Revs for a 2015 RCT3 pike, the pike is massively better. I found the Rev to either be too harsh or too divey and would get knocked off line more easily than I'd like. The Pike just feels right.

If they're 2015 Solo Air (not sure about 2014), you can add tokens to adjust this. No doubt the pike is stiffer though when push comes to shove.

Yes, until they fail, and you need tools you dont possess to bleed the Charger Bladder.

Dont notice any flex on my 650b version, but maybe just not riding 'aggressive' enough...

I just have to be wary of the "oooh, shiny new stuff" phenomena also.
(I really like the rev, btw...)

Try 16stone over the front. They are stiff but Mazz are just another level. Soap out of warranty? 🙁

They should be marked on the rear of the crown.

Mine have been creaking for a bit for the last month or so but today the steerer separated from the crown, not completely loose but allowing the bars to turn in a different direction to the front wheel. So yeah, borked. Caused me to crash and cut my leg up but could have been much worse. Have emailed Fisher as it's a pretty catastrophic failure, anyone heard of this happening to Pikes? Out in Winterberg for the weekend so have had to hire a bike. Got a carbon Santa Cruz V10 though, every cloud....

Anyhow, my Pikes are getting on for 4 years old so wondering if there is any difference in performance with the newer ones or should I look at the other options? Could see how much a crown/steerer/stanchion assembly is I guess.

Looks like mine are older than I thought but they could of been on the shelf for 6 months.
3 month left on the original warranty then.

Mine were bought just under a year ago so 2016 version apparently, 4 tokens fitted and running the guide pressure for my weight. Night and day better than the revs which came fitted originally.

The guide SSS posted shows I was off too, mine were manufactured in week 22 2013. I bought them in September 13 so not yet 3 years old. Not a brilliant lifespan then.

What's the stamp on the bottom of the crown mean?

Offset?

I think I may be some sort of pervert... I had a set of Pike RCT3 29ers in my Remedy but I fitted the 34s that came with it and so far, I prefer 'em. they're not even posh 34s, just the basic Performance ones. Mind you I also thought my old mico Lyriks were way better than the 26er Pikes that I briefly replaced them with, too.

Manitou Mattocs are pretty good, the IRT upgrade works very well in them too.
