Just put a Barzo on my rear wheel which took a while to go up tubeless. First ride on very unchallenging tracks and I get a puncture. Couldn’t find it so put a tube in to get home. On closer examination in the garage, I found a small slit in the sidewall. Is this typical or have I just been unlucky?
Which version do you have.
In my experience no not fragile. That's mainly with the grey side walled 2.35 trail version but also have the new 2.4 with tan walls. I also find them really easy to mount and inflate.
Mine (2.35 grey ones) were good tyres and very robust..No punctures, just wore out in time. Slightly floaty on damp Highland rock so I didn't go back, but good at trail centre fare and average conditions.
The grey 2.35 I had didn’t like the flint on the South Downs. Only a couple of rides, but both occasions tyre was slit open. Shame really, as it’s a lovely fast summer tyre.
Tan sidewall here. Put them on for Ard Rock two weeks ago. They were fine. Only put them on as I knew they rolled well, and it was going to be dry. Big mistake this week, at Ae, a bit wet, they were lethal, they just dont have any grip on wet flat rocks. My usual Minion DHF are fine year round at Ae, Barzos have definitely put me off using them in the wet.
Mud and roots they are fine in. Not tried rocky.
TBH south downs flint can be pretty tough on any tyre. I've been using Barzo's pretty exclusively for the last few years on my Procaliber and had various types. Now have the eBarzo with grey sidewalls - not sure if they are a bit tougher, they don't feel heavier. IME they do puncture more than the maxxis Ardent's I used to use and they wear quicker but I prefer the floaty feel of the Barzo and they are fast rolling. I find them incredibly easy to set up tubeless on the Bonty OEM rims.

This is very true, I've had Maxxis DD and DH sidewall casings get slashed on South Downs flints, makes me think what it would do to my legs and body if i had an off at speed through some of the more flinty sections (thinking of the western end of the SDW, one particular descent by the Sustainability centre not far from Butser hill)
