I'm pretty certain they are not, but i guess really my question is that i need a new crown race for a build.
I have bought a second hand frame with a nukeproof headset fitted. Need to fit my forks and i'm wondering can i buy any crown race online and it'll fit? It's a sealed cartridge bearing so i'm guessing it just needs a solid surface to rest on?
or do i need the specific crown race for the specific headset?

Crown races have a taper to them to centre the crown in the bearing when prelaoded
That angle could be different and the diameter could also be different.

Obviously different sizes for different size forks. Then there is considerable variation in races, depending on the type of bearing and shape of the headset. Some are similar, as in similar to take slightly different bearings but in my experience most are incompatible with each other. You may well be able to get a race replacement from Nukeproof, worth an email.
1. Inner Diameter - eg for 1 1/8", 1.5" and others (Giant overdrive etc)
2. Is it actually the bearing race? - ie for loose bearing headets
3. Taper angle for cartridge bearing headsets - eg 36 deg, 45 deg - needs to be correct to fit in the bearing properly
4. Bearing diameter - eg step up crown races for fitting a 1 1/8" steerer in a 1.5" or tapered headset
5. Slit or solid (slit ones easier to get one and off, no good for loose bearings for obvious reasons
6. Outer diameter and depth - needed for a good close fit into the lower bearing cup or some butt up close to the base lower cup
7. Any seals present? - eg Hope have one to help keep out dirt out.
