Watching with interest - could be interesting for those hardback rides where a kryptotal rear seems a bit overkill.
I have on an Ibis Ripley v3 LS replacing a 2.6 and 2.4 Forekaster due to wear at the end of last years summer. Pretty similar, though rear seemed to have a little less braking traction on steep loose stuff. Gives your bike some extra whizz after coming off Minions front and rear that is for sure. Generally impressed with their grip levels, but only ran them for a couple of months before winter hit and went on to Xynotals. Not much wear even with 80-120 miles/week riding a mix of trails enter, off-piste enduro trails and road (I ride from home to the trails). I'm also on carbon rims (Ibis 941s) and have the soft enduro version with no problems so far.
Thinking about putting them back on, what with the trails being pretty dry (cue summer storm season).
I was keen on these to make my Mondraker Raze a bit more of a lightweight trail bike again after beefing it up with bigger tyres etc but was put off by the few reviews I did find of them. Ended up going for the Forekaster v2 but haven’t had a chance to try them out yet as I’ve just been riding the ebike and the megatower
If I'd not recently bought and fitted a new Conti CrossKing on the rear of my Tallboy for summer, I'd try the Magnotal. Currently using a Xynotal on the front for summer which is great until it gets really mucky. Not sure the Magnotal would be grippy enough on the front for my use.
There was a pretty detailed review of them on NSMB, was kind of meh, and the lightness of the carcass was a big point
Even more surprisingly, Guy Kesteven was kind of negative about that range of new Contis. although he was on a harder compound Magnotal
I've not really seen anything particularly positive on the Magnotals and the dense, small blocks tread sort of reminds me of Wicked Wills which I don't like.
Starting with the Hutchinson Griffus you have, you can gain a fair bit of speed by sticking the rear tread 2.4 Griffus on the front and putting a Hutchinson Wyrm on the back - I ran this setup on my Moxie for a couple years with no issues. It's hard to compare to someone else's use, but as a blundering 14 stone on a hardtail I had no problems with fragility.
It's also worth a mention that Hutchinson tyres are really nicely cushioned with a supple case that inflates to advertised size, but they are a bit slower than some other brands as the trade off. I've got Specialized rubber on my full suss now and prefer them where I don't need the cushion. Specifically the most recent Purgatorys front and rear in the summer and Purgatory rear, Butcher front for seasons or occasions when I want more front end bite.

Yeah, I love the feel of the Hutchinsons and to be honest, they don't roll that badly, just wanted something a little bit nippier - the Stanton is a summer bike (that said, the Griffus are useless in winter anyway). I was initially looking for a different Hutchinson rear and fancied a Kraken, but can't find them in 27.5 (tan wall) anywhere (I'm running mullet). Just had a look and can't initially see any 27.5 Wyrms either.
I'll ditch the idea of the Magnotals though.
I won't be buying Specialized, regardless of how many times I read the 'latest version is better' 🤣
Fair enough, the current Purgatorys have converted me, but I know there's history there.
I forgot your Stanton had been mulleted TBH. Unfortunately, whilst your bottom bracket is finally low enough, your options for faster rolling tyres is more limited - I don't think either faster Hutchinsons I mention come in 27.5 at all.
Want to run them, where are they available cheaply?
