[#543647]

Currently have a Maxxis ADvantage 2.25 I've been using as front tyre and I've been trying to transfer it to the new Flow rim.

With only the Yellow tape I can't mount the tyre.

With one bead mounted, the other bead seems to sit too far away from the rim wall.
I can't see how this will move this distance even using a compressor.

I guess installing a rim strip may sort this out.

Otherwise what other tyre options?

I'll do you a swap - you tell me what the Advantage's are like and I'll tell you how to mount the tyre ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously though, I'm not sure how effective the yellow tape is at sealing the rim and tyre. I've heard others say that you can technically do it, but I can't see how you're going to get away without using the actual rim strip as the tyre does form a seal against the rim strip itself.

One technique you can try is to liberally coat the tyre and rim, at the interface of the two, with neat washing up liquid (brush it on with a paint brush). This is the method I use when getting the tyres up to pressure when using the rim strip, but it might help when just using the yellow tape.

The washing up liquid helps to form an airtight seal initially, until the tyre interfaces with the rim stip.

So what are the Advantages like? I've been running 2.35 Minnions (a front version on both front and rear) in folding 60d but would like something lighter and faster rolling for the summer. The Crossmarks are light and fast rolling but I heard they are dodgy in anything other than bone dry conditions.

The ADvantage's seem great, run the in all conditions now in various parts of the country never really put a foot wrong - only been iffy when I've let my weight drop backwards in corners.

The beads just sit too close together naturally so won't mount. Can't get enough air in to slide the beads out.

I can get my Nokian NBX rear to seal easily with just the yellow tape. Need to change that though as I seem to be ripping the side knobbles off, I'm thinking another ADvantage for the rear, thought about the Crossmarks but again heard iffy when damp.

Have you tried leaving it for several hours with an inner tube in on the Flow rim?

No probs for me with just the yellow tape on various tyres.

I'm told turning it inside out overnight spreads the tyre beads?

Have had the same problem with Advantage tyres flow rim combo you will need a rim strip and more than likely compressed air... High rollers and minions seat no worries
