[#10756839]

My faithful Command post has died, reverbs drive me nuts and eldest daughter is off to uni, so budgets are tightening.

So all this means me looking at the chain reactions brand-x dropper and I was wondering if anyone had any actual real life experience with one they'd like to share...

thanks hive mind,

Steve.

3 of us on them here. 1 needed replacing from new as had excessive play (was done under warranty), has been fine since approx 8 months. Including withstanding a horror crash then bent the seat rails. 1 only a few months old but fine. Mine is 16 months old and still fine without any servicing. Maybe slightly more wiggle than it had at new but nothing you notice riding.

Unless you need a longer post, I wouldn't buy anything else. They're reliable, priced sensibly and just work.

Yep, I've got one too, faultless in 18 months, far more than can be said about the previous three Reverbs.

Mine has been faultless for the 2 years I’ve had it. Just bought another as I wanted more drop. The new lever has addressed my only slight gripe about the original, which was that the cable clamped at the dropper end. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

We replaced four of our Command posts this year for the Brand X 170mm just to get the extra drop over the 125mm Command ones. We have continued using the Specialized lever as its far better than the Brand X one. Had no problems so far although they don't feel as sturdy as the Command ones

Stealth Ad we have four Command posts along with a load of other stuff I need to get round to selling

aha, thanks everyone. does this mean I can use my specialized lever? I still have two rings on the front, so the paddle style lever does not work for me and apparently that's what they come with. I guess the question is: which end does the cable nipple attach to? the post or the lever?

thanks again.

Cable nipple can actually be attached to either end. By default you use the supplied barrel clamp to clamp the cable at the lever end, but you can also use this at the post end (as was the case with the original levers) if you need the nipple to be at lever end.

You can still use the paddle lever on the front, we didn't even bother changing the barrel clamp over the Specialized one went straight into the bottom of the new post. The hole for it is the same diameter. Ours were internal routed.

Had one for about 8 months and has worked perfectly but then I never had any trouble with the 2 Reverbs I have owned , unlike a lot of people.

I brought one of these earlier this year and have been quite impressed by the quality given its price.

The only thing I didn't like was the action (direction) of bar mounted lever, so I brought a Ztto dropper lever to replace it.

Remember that the Brand X has an inline seat clamp vs. the Command Post's setback, so your effective seat angle will steepen and your seated reach shorten.

You probably won't notice that much, but in an age where people obsess over +/-5mm on geometry charts it's worth mentioning..

We thought that it may be a problem but as of yet cant tell the difference even when switching from a bike that has a Command post straight onto one with the Brand X fitted. Probably not obsessive enough 😉. Most of my bikes are set up with a tape measure for reach and saddle height

Had mine 18 months & it sagged excessively, emailed CRC who sent out a new one without the need for return, the new one arrived in a day or two 👍

An interesting point I discovered with the Brand X dropper that came on my Vitus Sommet, is that all but the shortest of them have an air valve, which is hidden under a rubber boot under the saddle - ie top of the post. Some googling can misleadingly suggest that they have a non-refillable air cartridge. Worked a treat when mine was refusing to extend out fully.....

Yep, 2 posts - a 150mm and a 170mm, both perfectly acceptable with the standard lever - don't think I'd buy anything else now!

Older ones have an air valve, newer ones are now a more reliable sealed cartridge unit.

Three in our domain, oldest has a bit of ok play, newer ones, still overa year old work great. Last new one was cheaper than a Reverb Service!

I've owned three, running two at the moment and will likely by another as one is a 30.9 with a shim to 31.6. No problems at all, and you can buy the PRO Koryak service kit for about £15 from eBay to service them (new keys and bushing) I haven't needed to yet, but likely will over the winter. They're pretty much set and forget, and really good with a ZTTO lever. I may go to OneUp for the replacement, simply because I can probably squeeze one in at 190mm travel, which would be nice.

I ran a Shimano/Pro Koryak for 2 years trouble free (they're the same mechanically as Brand-X) I've got a Bird branded version now and it's just as good.

Honestly I can't the see the point of buying anything else at the moment.

Cheap, reliable, piss easy to service (kits are £15 and the how-to, non-time lapse vid is 6 mins long) major parts are modular and cheap.

They go up, they go down, they stop anywhere you like in between, what else do you want?

Yes, I run one. It's been great for the last 18 months or so. The most annoying thing about it is getting the insert length of the cable right because there's not much adjustment on the barrel adjuster. I could have swapped the lever as other have done, the lever has been fine, instead I bought an inline barrel adjuster to get the extra throw. Works perfectly well.

I've had one for a year, well happy with the price/performance factor. Only thing I did notice was that it wouldn't actuate in the cold weather after it had been inside and had warmed up. Worked fine straight out of the cold garage but jammed after being in the warm office all day. Unjammed after riding it in the cold for 30 minutes. Only happened a couple of times so haven't bothered to investigate.
