Does anyone ride a mountain bike with 26" wheel out front and a 24" out back. Why? And what's it like?
What was the idea behind it RD?
I ask because I saw an old Cove Stiffee set up like this. It looked slack.
to get the rear end lower but retain all the travel i think , i'm no expert though, i just remember a mate had one
I recall at the time, the gibbings saying that downhill was getting more technical and the smaller wheel was required for quicker acceleration out of sections.
I wondered if it might be used to lower an otherwise high BB (by 2"). Would feel a bit choppy out back, no?
I thought it came about because of a design fault, that could be a myth though, I forget which brand it was to do with.
And don't forget the 1984 Cannondale SM-500
The big hit used it to shorten the wheelbase. A 26 with large volume tyre was deemed to long
those big hits were exceptional for the money.
a shame as the lack of 24 options (rims and tyres) wasn't great.
but i ran one for a season in france, riding anything from all day (lift based) xc to full on top to bottom runs of the WC tracks all day long, and it never skipped a beat.
broke just about everything tied to it, but the frame itself. rock solid.
following that you could pick them up new for about £300 IIRC. biggest bargain ever.
