[#2040257]

Popped in yesterday to get an idea of a price as the poor old Soul might get treated to a respray nexy year if I get any cash for Xmas.

First time I've been in and

a) one of the staff has even acknowledged my existence

b) he then asked if he could help

c) he answered all my questions very helpfully, clearly knew what he was talking about, and gave me a price a fair bit lower than I thought they would charge

So, anyone used them for a respray, or advise how good the finish is on their own bikes?

(Came over all funny in there and developed a strange hankering for a custome steel audax bike....)

You did better than me then. I went in with my old fixed condor road bike when I needed a new lockring and they pretty much all ignored me and went off into the back room!

Their bikes are nice though, and if they get the same people to paint them then I reckon you'd get a decent finish.

I've had an old road frame re-sprayed there before. It was a nice enough job, but not brilliant - it didn't look like the same care went into it as one of their own (there was a bad dribble they had obviously missed)and, given the eventual cost, was a false economy for an old frame past its best.

Jeff or Gavin are usually very helpful but service is variable in there and depends who is in that day or how busy they are.

billysan - I suspect you hadn't completed the 4 year apprenticeship for being ignored that I went through - or else you hadn't spent 10 minutes checking over £2.5k of audax bike while holding one of their price lists.....

sil4 - thanks for that - I'm debating getting my old Soul frame resprayed and getting the horrible old brake hose rings replaced, for which they quoted £250, or spending £350 on the nasty custard coloured Soul that Samways can't shift!

£250 to remove some hose rings & paint a frame?
Bloody hell.

If you're a)not fussed about an exact colour, and b)can mask off the bits you don't need colouring, I've known people to get things put in with other bits that are already being done by a normal powder coaters for very cheap (like a tenner or so). Like you mask it up, and say could you do this next time you're doing something in red (or whatever vague colour you're interested in), and make sure they know you're not fussed about the exact shade.

I found them arrogant and expensive. But on positive note, swore I would then do all stuff myself...and have done.
