any problems with this? would be from the east coast to either the north (aberdeen/inverness etc) or the west - oban etc
cheers
Probably not a huge issue but I'd call Scotrail - they are very an@l about strapping the bikes into their on board racks and I dont think there is enough height in the train to upend the bike. Probably ask you to take the wheels off.
Even more important to make sure you book / reserve bikes well in advance - the entire system runs hopelessly under capacity for a country that puports to be mtb capital of the world ;-(
never found scotrail great on the phone, guess i'll have to try...
never needed to book though? they're just sprinter services, not the big intercity ones like i use to get back to york from scotland.
Aye, need to book. Mate booked hime and 3 friends' bikes on a train to Ft William, turned up and found all the bike spaces taken by some chancers' bikes. Long debate with guard, and the other bikes were turfed off because they didn't have bike reservations.
Agree the capacity for bikes is woeful.
>never needed to book though? they're just sprinter services<
Exactly, no brake van on these toy trains and only 4 bookable spaces on most trains - all of which are likley to be booked out weeks in advance in peak season. Not only does the system have woeful incapacity it almost discourages train / bike use because you have to plan so far in advance.
fair enough ๐ will have to think about other travel options perhaps...
Scotrail are very clear on this. They don't take tandems.
I've seen tandems on the Oban service - and trailers, kids tag-alongs etc
