Still window shopping for a reasonably light wide tyre clearance gravel frame. Much as I like the Giant Revolt and Fairlight Secan, I think I could build up a Tripster AT Plus cheaper and closer to my requirements.
For the money I'm not expecting super light triple butted Italian aluminium tubes, but it's lighter than a steel equivalent. Is the tyre clearance as advertised? They say 700x56mm but I'm a bit suspicious of their advice to run narrower tyres if it's muddy, sounds to me like clearance with 56mm is maybe a bit tight...
Not got one, but have been looking for a possible replacement for my sonder camino ( simply looking for more tyre clearance)
Kinesis website lists clearance at 50mm so no difference to the Camino, unless its changed recently the only reference i could see for 56mm was the Epic Cycles website so its made me a bit wary.
Merlin seem to be knocking them out a bit cheaper.
The Kinesis website has it listed as 50mm with 700c so no more than a Camino
The wallet friendly, big tyre clearance, aluminium gravel bike does seem to be a gap in the market
To be honest 50mm would be plenty if it was genuine clearance with a bit of space either side (I seem to be able to get away with ~2mm either side but would prefer more).
I found an old FB post suggesting they had managed to squeeze a 2.2" in there but I think very dependent on a narrow rim or something.
Yeah I agree it seems like a bit of a gap in the market, seems to be steel or carbon mainly, perhaps just more difficult to achieve clearance with less easily shaped aluminium tubes? I can't remember what 'light' looks like for an aluminium frame either, I think my custom 853 frame was 2.7kg with headset but I think that's heavy for 853. The AT Plus is 1.9kg with fittings (according to Kinesis anyway...) so it feels like there could still be a noticeable weight difference.
Still tempted!
I’ve had one for a few weeks. 2.1 Mezcals fit with plenty of room. 2.2s would physically fit, but would be too close for my liking once some mud is added to the mix.

Good to hear! Any chance of some pictures? How have you built it up?
I’ll take some photos when I’m home, which won’t be for a few days.
It’s been built up with kit I already had (Shimano 11-speed 1x 38t chain ring, 11-46 cassette as that’s what was on the wheels taken off my hardtail). First time I’ve had a dropper post, which is oddly useful as the big tyres make it pretty awkward to mount with my saddle height if the post is fully extended!
Awesome, I like that a lot 👍
I think I would actually go for a faster tyre again like the T50 in a 50mm width, as I have the 29er with 2.1" Mezcals for when the going gets too rowdy.
I measured the 2.1" Mezcals on the 29er which come up reasonably true to their stated metric dimensions e.g. 52mm.
My inner magpie would be replacing all the redundant bolts on the luggage mounts with colourful aluminium ones like Wolftooth or similar, just think of the weight savings! 😉
Clearance on a fustle causeway I think might be 50mm or more if you want an alternative.
It does have a lot of redundant bolts - I was thinking of trying to find rubber plugs for them, but maybe adding some colour is the way to go.
The press fit bottom bracket and the looks/paint put me off the Causeway, but it does look to have decent tyre clearance.
