Anyone for a 3 speed Hammerschmidt??
I've been toying with the idea of getting a Hammerschmidt 2 speed system for use with a single rear sprocket. However am I better off holding fire until someone (another manufacturer) produces a 3 speed version? Is this likely to be possible in engineering terms?
Does anyone know of anything in the pipeline?
The alternative 'Holy Grail' (in my opinion) of internal geared systems would be a lightweight 3 speed (or more) disk compatible internally geared hub designed for mountain bike use. I'm aware of the Alfine and Rohloff systems and have a Nexus hub myself however they weigh well over 1.5kg and I don't like having that much weight in my back wheel !
Well it's not possible using the existing design though it could be done in the same way as a three speed sturmey archer geared hub works.
Seems as though some folk are giving it some thought....
