We had a similar thread. I've ridden 40km this year, in total (and that may be an overestimate). Last ride of 2 hours was 18 months ago
Big thanks to chakaping for taking me around Rivington for a quick blast. Was very wet and quite muddy in places, but very enjoyable sliding around on the bike again. Has reminded me why I need to get out more.
Good to see you and thanks for waiting for me on the hills.
I was under the weather again this morning and had to cancel a job interview, so I may have got back on the bike too soon.
I think you need to prioritise fitness activities. Let's face it, they are actually more important than a lot of the excuses listed above. If you aren't enjoying it, then change your route / mates/ bike/ tunes etc. Last year I said to myself 'I will do some sort of fitness stuff Tues Thurs and at the weekend'. It doesn't get shifted for anything other than vitally important stuff. Yes I can't be arsed sometimes but the fact I have made a commitment to do it means i can't sit there humming and hawing about whether to go out or not and I ALWAYS feel ok once I am warmed up and have got going. As they say, the only truly crap workout is the one you don't do.
We rode over to Edale on Sunday, hard going in the mud and we got soggy feet but there was sunshine and it was great! ๐
Inspired by this thread, I've been out 3 times on the MTB this weekend and commuted (20 mile round trip) this morning.
The trails on Friday>Saturday were totally different. Bone dry on Friday and sopping wet on Saturday.
Yeah! Get in there Daffy!
I got off the bus last night after my 2hr 20min commute home, feeling completely wasted, but I had a plan.
I got in the house, fed the cats before they ate me, then chucked a microwave curry down me throat so my insulin had something to feed on. Chucked my telescope out into the back garden to cool, then got into my riding kit and went for a spin. No sitting down with a cuppa. No, "I'll just catch up on the news first". Nope, straight out the door again.

I only did an off-road circuit of the town, so was barely out for an hour and 20 mins, but I still had a cracking good time blasting through the slidey mud, wet leaves and murderous roots!
Again, I just felt so much better for it. No guilt, angst or self loathing for sitting on the sofa when I 'should' be riding! Result! Oh, and I got a good view of the nebulae around the Pleiades when I went out into the back garden later in the evening. Two hobbies in one night!
Did have a bitch of a hypoglycemic episode around 1.30 am mind you! ๐
