Shop around for a genesis day cross, think the RRP is now £550 but could be found cheaper.

Absolutely loving mine, the mountainbike is gathering dust in the corner now...

Yeah, drop and SS.

I eventually lowered the gear slightly, makes it more versatile and better training for the road bike. Brilliant bike on woodsy singeltrack.

look around for a kona dew drop. Not true cross, but well capable off road and has bb7 disks too. 8 spd with a compact triple so good range of gears. RRP was 650 but they stopped making them last year and they can now be found for about 500.

Kona Dew Drops can be had for around 460. I should know, i read this post, looked up a kona dew drop and decided it was what was missing in my cycling life so have have ordered one. I really should be less open to impulse buys

chopper666 - I got mine at full price towards the end of last year, traded in the wheels and got hope pro2's on mavic open pro's on C2W scheme.
It's done ~500miles so far on a mixture of road, fireorad and full offroad. It hasn't missed a beat yet - so very impressed. About 20% faster for my commute than the semi-slicked HT I used to use.

It's worth looking at second-hand, particularly at this time of year now that the racing season has just ended.

thanks, quite looking forward to it arriving. not sure if to keep as is, or go full commuter vibe with rack and mudguards. Long term planning to use it for tours so it will be like that eventually.

(in bits) 90s Raleigh m-trax
modern Raleigh chopper (still mint - unridden - as delivered)

sorry for dely getting back to you chris.
Yes bike turned up, only been out on it once - very impressed so far. Good and fast, however also able to go off road - so when people where in the way on a local cycle path / canal path, was able to whip round them on the grass etc
Have bought last two bikes from wiggle and they are almost ready to go when they arrive. This was as it left factory so needed a few bits doing before i could ride it, also think it could do with a once over by local bike shop to set everything up correctly

chopper - good to hear you like it.
I've got a bit acrried away with mine. 3 days commuting so far this week, and for me that's a lot. ~85 miles in total with about 2000m climbing.
