Hi, does anyone know how you can identify a FOES Curnutt coil spring?
I've got one on my FXR and need to double-check what weight it is but there are no markings on it..

Have you tried emailing Foes, Dan? There a pretty helpful bunch.
I spoke to Jamie @ Balfa (01235 759366) as he is now the Foes importer t'other day about this when i had my fly refurbed. I think the best bet is to go to a good motor cycle shop and see if they can test the spring rate.
Is that the one that looks oddly like an air shock Dan?
(Sorry couldn't resist even though its not that funny)
As you were.....
Hmmm, well I guess I could also post the spring when I send the shock to Balfa to be serviced / re-valved.
I was just wondering if there was a way of figuring it out from the thickness/number of coils... and hence saving myself the postage cost (tis a heavy old lump of steel).
cheers peeps
Im afraid im not sure even balfa will be able to identify it by eye but you might be lucky - give jamie a call and see if he can enlighten you.
Hmmmm
OK so it seems the FOES FXR I bought secondhand came with a 450lb spring instead of the 350lb I was told it had.
No surprise that I was only getting 3'' of travel out of it then!
Out of interest how did you identify it in the end?
Ask IWH, as your trusted friend and owner of many foes he should be able to help....
eh?

Can you guess who I bought the frame from then?
re identification - Jamie@balfa measured it's coil diameter and compared it with his stock of springs.
