Off there for a long weekend and wondered if it's worth taking the bike.
Don't mind driving somewhere.
West to Nidderdale or North East to the North York Moors
Loads of well established routes on rights of way
Yeah, the Scar House Reservoir loop isn't far away, starting from Lofthouse or you could head over to Stainburn?
Easiest to describe is to ride from Sutton Bank along one of the marked trails (MTB or gravel). Lots in the woods above Boltby and Kilburn just near there.
Also lots of other routes on the Western edge of the Moors or round Dalby forest of you drive about further, or Dales to the West.
I'd shoot to the edge of the Moors. Sutton Bank'ish area holds some gold if you know where to look. Sutton Bank has facilities (bike shop, cafe, parking) and a couple of waymarked routes which are wholly average at best. Theres also some semi-waymarked gravel routes from there out to Rievaulx Abbey etc - not actually done those on the gravel bike yet but done large parts as a XC pootle on the big bikes and theres some lovely bits with epic views etc.
Further north from Sutton Bank you have High Paradise Farm cafe which is a must-stop on any route around there. That sits on the edge of Boltby Forest which hides some off-piste gems. I could see if I could pull a route off Strava if you wanted it. A new one for me as well this weekend was to ride past Boltby and into Silton Forest - from what I can remember, home to some 1990s DH races. The couple of tracks we rode were a) very wet but b) absolutely superb!
Definitely a bit of everything. I think the stuff out toward Nidderdale is more XC-ey. The stuff on the edge of the Moors has that option but with more tech/off-piste bits if you wanted it. I'd probably not drive past that for another 30 minutes to Dalby...
