Nooooooo. He's well known for stalking the weblooking for his name and and then visiting sites and boring the other posters to death.

There are some loons out there, got screamed at today as I got to the 50m mark by the twin dressed orange jacket and walking pole couple pointed out to me I should not be there. She was correct ! cheeky trail but so cheeky the hating pair should not have been here ether not to happy when that was pointed out.Started raging about how I was wearing a helmet and if had crashed into them i would have been fine. Let the hate flow. Total nutters they are everywhere.

Al, i think his point is that the walkers were 'outside the law' too, so suprised they took umbrage at someone else trespassing too.

Out of interest, in law is there a 'heirarchy of trespass' of any sort, ie would you get in mor trouble for trespassing on foot, bicycle, horse, mx bike etc?

Trespass is a civil offence not a criminal one. So in theory the police wouldn't be interested. All the owner or his agent can do is make a claim against you in civil court for damage. Anyone not the owner can just be ignored.

It gets on my tits - walkers, horse riders, whoever - they complain about the damage bikes cause etc. Why do these people think that they get to decide what is and is not an acceptable level of damage? Bikes cause damage, feet cause damage - deal with it!!! I had a guy try and kick me from my bike as i rode down Jacobs ladder last year - I doubt he'd try it again. Also had a farmer try and drag me off the back of my bike in January - had a good dust up with him too. They wind me the F#@K UP!!!!

Horses (or is that the folk riding them!) really get on my tits, I always warn that I am approaching and you still get abuse from some of them, plus they shit everywhere!! And walkers who see you coming and don't move out your bloody way and seem to think you should move even when you both have an equal right of way.
And worst of all are dog owners that cannot control there dogs, I simply say to them if you cannot control your dogs keep them on a lead.
That's enough moaning for one day!

I often imagine myself leaping into action, Chuck Norris style & karate chopping an assailant when I'm out riding.

Reality is I'd proabably just ride away. Fast. ๐Ÿ™‚

That nutter with the saw wants locking up.

I've never really understood the whole "damage" thing? Do they mean "making the countryside muddy" ???

Take the Ridgeway for example, centuries old drover road, exactly how muddy do you think it was in 1648 ? Yup, probably too muddy to walk along in unsuitable shoes just in case you get your faux SUV/4x4 dirty after your 300m "walk" from the nearest car park.........

Also, apparently we are "destroying" all our sites of natural beauty, well heads up, even if no one ever walks over any mountain path, in a couple of millions years it will have been reduced to looking like Norfolk by mother nature herself.

Considering we have many thousands of miles of tarmacs and made up roads and paths, please, please can we leave the few remaining proper ones alone and just use them for what they are!!!

Just to balance things, I have nothing but good feelings for walkers and horse risers.

Considering a bike is the fastest thing out the three (apart from a horse full gallop, but I have never seen them being ridden like that on paths or road), IMHO it is good manners to slow down and give them a wide berth. Remember what it is like being buzzed by cars when you are on the road? That's what it's like being a walker and being passed 1 foot away by some lunatic on a MTB doing 20mph.

In terms of access and damage, all three groups should work together to widen access and limit damage.

Horses go mental, throw their riders off and kick people. I've seen a horse go psycho just because I was in the vicinity on foot. Bike's don't tend to do that unless you ride them badly at high speed.

I give ramblers a good berth ever since a friend of the family got hit in the chest with piano wire stung between trees on a trail.... but considering most of the ****s probably drive to where they are walking....... I'm probably doing less environmental damage than they are when I go for local XC rides.

I shocked to say it but I'm going to fit a bell, after riding in Hamsterley with my son yesterday.

He's got a bell and I couldn't believe the reaction it got from walkers. He gave a few tings if people were blocking the track ahead and walking in the same direction.

All the walkers we met moved aside gave him a huge smile and made comments like 'well done' and 'good lad'. I know I'm nowhere near as sweet looking as my 7 year old but will I get similar treatment if I give a quick ting-ting?

The nutter with the saw would probably be given a job such as, oooh, let's say Minister of Transport or advisor to the government on bike policy over here.

I have bells on all my bikes (and my kids' bikes), except my road bike. Helps a lot when riding on shared use paths - most people move across and smile. Apart from the large group on Saturday who mentioned not having bells, when both my son and myself had ringed repeatedly and slowed right down (really, really slow) to pass them.

I do get stick from the people I go mountain biking with though for having a bell.

I think that he who shall not be named is targeting the wrong crowd.
Equine erosion is the cause of those little scars in virgin soil the length and breadth of the entire planet. What's more, its been going on for thousands of years either human-driven or by migratory grazers.
Scum, I say. Scum!

(They ought to have bells on them too)

Before getting riled by this guy, read this..

This guy is a real product of the internet. An obsessive focus on a microcosmic aspect of environmental protection + proven psychological skills = an online harvester of anti-MTB 'evidence' and propoganda. Seems like his sport is being a clever wind-up merchant, more than any productive environmentalism.

There's a psychologist close to me, I'd be interested to know what they make of him )

I had a good few arguments with him on Usenet. when you posed questions he couldn't answer he would vanish and when you answered questions he thought you couldn't he would put words in your mouth and make stuff up.

Fun guy. but loopy. and by god this is an old story!

To be fair to him he made loads of valid points and the pages he produced were really just a compilation of the evidence people insisted he produced were he made arguments. He had a point and stuck to it. while i thought his position was wrong i did respect his sticking to his guns despite hundreds of posters throwing insults and calling him crazy for years just because their views were different. he lost it a bit toward the end though.
