Planning on doing a loop taking in iron keld and loughrigg tomorrow morning, with tilberthwaite flattened now what are the best options for extending it? Could head over to claife but looks like a lot of road might be involved, same for adding bacon slicer / fox at grizedale. Plotted a route out last night that took in grizedale and claife and it was just a bit too long (~50km, 1600m) as I've got a touch of a cold hanging around and will be expected to do stuff with the wife and dog later on!

Which direction are you doing IK/Loughrigg?

There are quite a few new bridleways in that area, so make sure you're looking at an up-to-date map.

Up and over the fell from ambleside to skelwith then looping round the east of IK to descend S to N and then descending the terrace W to E

No idea - but I did this one with my son a few weeks back and really enjoyed it:

PostieRich off here is the expert, but if you took an alternative descent off Loughrigg which dropped you closer to Clappersgate, then instead of taking the road climb up the east side of IK, you could spin over to High Wray on the cyclepaths, up Claife past Basecamp and down Colthouse, then take the short road climb up to get back to the Iron Keld byway.

That adds a bit, but not too much. Then it's up to you whether to head for Little Langdale/Elterwater/Loughrigg Terrace etc.

Thanks Martin, I've pieced something similar to that together using other peoples routes from Strava (inc. one of postierich's 😀).

Stirling, the links not working for me I'm afraid.
