[#5866833]

Had a guy get in touch with me interested in the 2014 Banshee Rune I have for sale on here. He said he is passing the area with work next week and would like to see the frame. He hasn't asked any questions about it or price, he just asked for my address.

I sent him the postcode that covers about 50-60 houses but no number after a few things I have read on here. After this he emailed me back asking for the actual number which I refused to give and instead said if he rings me on arrival I will come and meet him, explaining my slight concerns, mentioning that I am sure he is totally trustworthy etc....

Have not heard anything back yet.

Also, there was no 'YGM' left in the thread, just contacted by email.

Have recent cases on here and pink bike of peoples houses being done over made me paranoid or should I be concerned about a guy who contacts by email, leaves no phone number and his primary concern is not the product, more the address?

Cheers,
Lee.

Give him your neighbours number and see if their shed gets broken into?

I've done similar and been given an address minus number and never pushed for number as a call/txt on arrival was all that was needed.. To push for a number would have me thinking scam !!

No issues with this. But I'd always ask who he is on STW so you can see his post history. If he won't confirm that, and you can be sure that he is who he says, I'd knock it on the head tbh.

Cheers plus one.

Suppose you gotta be on your toes. I stand to lose a lot more than just a frame if it was....

If not sure, I would lose the sale and move on. Not worth the risk.

Iff he had asked you to meet him somewhere else would that also make you paranoid?
I think any selling situation makes us all paranoid these days especially with high end bikes and how much we all seem to boast about how much money we have on here, easy pickings for anyone I think.

Sometimes our 6th sense kicks in to protect us, follow it. It's rarely wrong.

Personally I would not have given a postcode.

Anything I buy these days goes to work just as another degree of separation from my home address.

he knows your street now and I'm sure a bit of Web stalking on his part might provide enough info for him to get at your routine, and maybe find a photo with your face, he could well figure out your location with what he already has. Be cautious, perhaps just come out and email him your concerns.

Best suggestions for the future is to arrange any meetings at a local, mutually agreed site, supermarket carparks (busy ones, with CCTV ideally) are a good idea...

Its not rude, Or paranoid, you don't know this individual, But he knows you have at least on portable item of significant value and he's narrowed you down to a street, what do you know about him?

Offer to post your address to his house.

And get a phone number.

Five minutes and I think I've found you on FB OP, including some photos, I could park in your street (if I knew your postcode) wait to see which house you leave, then rob you blind. Not that I plan to, I'm not much into banshees... Or crime.

Cookeaa , maybe e-mail recommending tightening up his security on the internet rather than posting how you could potentially find him. I know your trying to help but your making it easier in a public forum pal!

Didn't use his email, just information gleaned from this thread and the OPs STW profile, the fact he's recently gotten a banshee rune, Google took me straight to him...

I am not hacker, its all been left in the public domain...

Tighten up people!

You've just got to follow your instincts. That doesn't guarantee you won't get ripped off but it reduces the chances. I haven't sold much but I did sell the bike on here. I emailed the purchaser with my name and address partly as part of deciding how to do the trade and partly to show good faith. He emailed back his address. In the end we met on neutral ground to reduce travel.

But by then I knew i was dealing with a forum regular and felt I had a good idea who I was doing business with

I bought a camera off ebay. One of the reasons I bid on the one i did was i was so impressed by the posh the garden furniture the camera was sat on when photographed. I'm a big believer in profiling. Your profiling smelt a rat....

The OP is quite easy to find. But so am i

How?! Am I being daft

Edit - I am, I guess the op has used the same email address on here as he has for his fb

It took four words bashed into google, all obtained from STW.

I'm not saying anymore than that.

Google the chap's email address, that will find his STW profile. Or it may find his other dodgy profiles on other forum sites. My experience is jobbers who steal bikes, and rip people off use the same email address for other adult, or specialist forums

Cheers for all your help so far you lot. Very interesting. One thing that interests me cookeaa is how a Facebook search of me, would aid an individual to find my address?

Also, I have no email linked to Facebook.

Admittedly I am sure if you put the name or bike, or forum name of many on here into a google search then you would be able to gain elements of information of them on various social media sites. It's just the nature of the beast. However, I don't believe you should stop living life, sharing photographs of trips, races, adventures just because of the potential that scumbags can see what you ride.

I also think that the guy you have found on Facebook is not me. There is another guy, who goes by the screen name generallevi, who rides a banshee rune, who actually works in the banshee factory and is also called Lee.

So don't be too sure unless your sure.

All the best,
Lee.

Name and Postcode you can get the rest without leaving your armchair.

Well it's lucky my road is on a military base then with the potential that is being unearthed here. Nothing that would give me better pleasure that to see a German Shepard get a piece of someone who was ballsey enough to have a pop.

I'm in the same boat as cookeaa. Generallevi I found a lot of info in 30 seconds of googling. Who you're married to. What high school you went to.what branch of the military you're in.
Oh and happy birthday

Nope I found you. Didn't use your email address just your name (in profile) and the words "banshee" and "rune" took me straight to the build shot the shop put up for you, you commented on that of course, and all I had to do was log in to FB (not friend or poke you or anything) to find photos (and other information).

It's not meant to be malicious. I was just wondering how much more info he'd need to locate your home.

I knew you were RAF I didn't know you are on base. That information could well deter a scrote but for those of us who don't have MoD Plod patrolling our street such information could well put a determined tea leaf on the doorstep.

Its all the little crumbs of information we all innocently leave in the public domain. I'm basically a halfwit and I can join the dots. Just imagine what a proper criminal could do...

I think the same rule applies for "am I being paranoid or..." And "am I being scammed or..."

The answer is yes ๐Ÿ˜‰
