With either get the braces as they always slip down.
The shorts are short so no issue with the knee pads, the 3/4 will sit over the knee pads but will ride up a bit to the top of the pads when riding, obviously depends on the type/make/size of pads,

3/4 are a decent baggy wide knee so meve had any problem wearing with pads
+1 for the braces
And size is bigger than the usual,Alturs sizing, I would be a large in most of their shorts but a medium in the Attacks (34" waist)
