I've had my Trek Slash since february and cant fault it tbh. That said I think the first major upgrade should be getting rid of the guide R's. They are not the worst brake Ive ever ridden but not even as good as my old Zee's were on my remedy.
So the obvious question is what to replace them with .? If Zee's were good then surely saints are even better. I can get saints for about £135 an end but what else could I try .

Many Thanks .

Got 4 pot XTs on my Rail, incredibly good and the contact point adjust actually works unlike any of my old Saints

Got Guide RSCs on a few bikes and also been faultless with good power

My new 4pof SLX’s are almost as good as my Saints. Cheaper too.

Sram code rsc

I've got bikes with code rsc, current shimano xt 4 pots, magura mt5. And have ridden saints, zee, guide, levels, hope e4s. The codes are the best by far.

I swapped the levers on my Slash for Guide RSC and it totally transformed them. Gone from pretty crap brakes, to the best ones I've had.

About to list some little used Zees for sale...(not so stealth ad).

Lots of good brakes - Codes, Saint, XTR 4 Pot, Zee, MT7, MT5, MT Trail Sport but they seem to be very personal. Some folk like gradual, some want instant, some a short lever, some a longer broader lever etc

Very rarely hear Guides mentioned in the conversation though...

Saints are my go-to brake. Magura mt7 are also superb and I was pretty impressed with code rsc, not the basic r model though. I didn't keep them though as I dislike dot fluid.
Avoid anything hope, weak underpowered brakes.

Don't be so sure. I couldn't tell them apart.

If youre happy and feel confident on them just get another set.

I've a Zee on the front, brilliant brake (and lighter than the Saint). I've modified it by adding an SLX reach adjuster.

If you liked the Zee's, buy another set IMO.

I’d you liked Zee then get some more - I don’t think there’s much difference between zees and saints.

Personally I didn’t mind the guide R’s I had, but I thought I’d try Code R’s are they are quite a lot better. It’s mostly on flat out fast stuff you notice your forearms aren’t pumping up as much, and on steep tech they’ve got more outright stopping power.

Equally you hear Magura MT5/7 are decent - although best to go with the upgraded metal levers as the standard ones feel a bit mushy.

Thankjs for the replys folks. I think ill look at XT's , maguiras are sposed to be good as has been said but a bit nippy to bleed. Shimano have always been dead easy . Only other question is as I currently have Sram matchmakers with the guides what mount should I buy for the shimanos. ?
