Salted peanuts and a packet of hartleys jelly.

Cheap and effective. Works just fine on long rides.

Nature Valley granola bars.

re. replacing salt. I saw a paper which suggested that you don't lose enough salt through sweating to warrant replacing them, but what happens is people drink too much, thus diluting the salts and making them less effective... i think.

Rice Crispie Squares for me. And haribo. Coeliac disease means no oats or wheat, and having some awareness of flavour and texture means no 9 Bars. "mmm, you can really taste the hemp"

Haribo tangfastic. Nothing beats fizzy cola bottles.

There's a weird vegan baker who sells cakes on Hebden Bridge market who makes a snack bar consisting of squidgy chocolate, peanut butter and rice crispies and is unexpectedly tasty and efficacious.

Am taken by the idea of Eccles cakes. Must remember to get some.

Houns, I once got very, very, very drunk on Wye stuff at the Saracen's in SY. Awesome beers!

Malt loaf, dolly mixture or fig rolls. Sometimes all three if I'm lucky!

Never do a big ride without sausage butties in my pack. Make them while the sausages are warm so all the butter melts into the bread, does the job a treat.

Jelly babies, jelly beans and chocolate brownies have all come in handy at various times too.

Sometimes a cheese straw from the mid-ride stop off place for a bit of extra savoury suntinence. 😀

I've used maltloaf, currently use jaffa cakes.

Have known of people using:
Malt loaf and marmite. 😯
Rocky road.
Banana and bacon toasties.

Traidcraft Geo bars are my current favourite - £1 for a pack of 5 at Tesco at the moment.

Plus a few Haribo from a tub I keep in the cupboard and transfer to a little bag pre ride.

Pretty much anything with some form of sugar in it.

Folk who swear by rip-off Power Bars etc need their heads examined.

White rolls with honey. Granola bars. Those fig & cashew bars from Tesco. I also like Jelly babies, although the insulin crash from those is just horrendous so I tend to only eat them when I know I have enough to get me to the end of the ride. Take 3 every 15 mins and they work wonders....until you run out.

Be very wary of Butty Bach, slips down very easily, then you slip down just as easily!!! 😳
