For the last two years at October, we (myself, wife & 11yr daughter) have holidayed in Castle Douglas for a week, allowing us to do a number of the 7stanes routes - Ae, Mabie, Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree. We have also cycled at Drumlanrig castle. We usually do Blue and Green routes with the occassional Red. One route in the morning another in the afternoon.
What other cycling is there away from the 7stanes routes? Dont mind moving our base away from Castle Douglas but dont want to go too far away.
The Tweed Valley (staying in Peebles) seems like the obvious alternative?
As above, if you just want trail centres I don't think there's any other with the same tight knit numbers.
Northern Wales is the only other place I can think of.
The Galloway forest is great for cycling near CD. Loads of forest roads and can put together loops of the right length. Best options for where to be based if not still in CD are Gatehouse or maybe Mossdale so can get onto raiders road. Not so much in terms of singletrack but plenty of good views and spots to stop for a swim or a picnic.
Looking on Trailforks and I can see trails away from the 7Stanes. Have a look there.
Also have a look on Strava using the Heat map which should show you what trails are being ridden. You can also search for segments on Strava.
Komoot is also good for routes.
Just in the process of booking accomodation close to Peebles. Thanks to all those who responded to my OP.
Now to investigate routes.
