My Rock Shox Shitxle is starting to fray. This will be the second one to fail and the thought of dropping another shed load of cash for another replacement isn't too appealing.

What alternatives can people recommend? I'm tempted by the Mt Zoom, but I'm open to suggestions.

The Brand X one is great for the money. Should be pretty much bullet proof as no spring.

I much prefer the stealth solutions to the quick release lever types. I have the Fox version on my 34s (the Kabolt) and don't find it inconveniencing at all as I only ever remove the front wheel for servicing duties a couple of times a year.

I bent mine in a big crash and replaced it with

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wolf-Tooth-Wolf-Axle-for-RockShox-Maxle-15x100-15x110-15x150-QR15-Skewer-Bolt/113346602339?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

The seller was easy to deal with and it arrived quickly

I prefer the 'stealth' ones but with washers like the wolf-tooth or the KCNC one. I had a rockshox stealth one but it bottomed out the threads before getting tight.

Will have a look at the Brand X.

Can’t help but feel that RockShox are taking the piss by charging £45 for a product that doesn’t last (the edge of the “crown” is thin and soft, so it bends rendering it useless) and I can’t have had the wheel out more than a dozen times. The rear one is much more substantial and hasn’t deformed with use but I don’t know if this is a RochShox or from other suppler.

Will go for a bolt in one at 25% of the price.

You can just cut a new flat edge into it. Easy with a dremel but can be done with a hacksaw

Sounds like you are using the old design which was replaced a few years ago? The new design is similar to your rear one.

Having said that, I did snap a rear Maxle 18 months ago...

I wish someone made a stealth one that was compatible with pre fox marzocchis. Don't like the QR design.

True, but at £45 a pop you shouldn't have to butcher it with a hacksaw after less than 20 operations. I bet you could wear one our from new in 10 minutes. Utter crap. Will give my money to someone else.

They replaced the old design, which worked absolutely fine but had to be operated correctly or it'd break, with the new design which is less vulnerable to cackhandedness but on the other hand, will totally just break in normal use for no obvious reason.

You're probably doing it up too tight. You only need to do it up to the point that there's no play, then lock it off with the lever (adjusting the cam tension as required). A spot of grease on the threads helps too.

Mine has lost tension on the cam, hence why i've been overtightening it and ruining the edge of the slot. Will re-tension it using new found YouTube based knowledge. Still expensive crap though 😉

https://robertaxleproject.com/bolt-on-axles/ Brand X are ok for the money but the robertaxle ones are nicer and they have a bigger range
