Off to the alps in a few weeks time. Just wondering who do the stw collective reccomend for bike insurance.
Easy jet flights out with a few days riding around chamonix.
Looking to cover my bike from damage in transit and theft while I'm there.
Cheers
The go to premium insurers for the Alps are Snowcard and Dogtag. But the priorities for this type of insurance are whether they helicopter you off the mountain and pay your hospital bills - I don’t know what the theft provisions are when you are there. I would say though that theft is a lot less common out there. There are cheaper insurers around and I’m sure someone will recommend but I’ve only ever claimed with Snowcard (husband spent three days in hospital) and they were excellent.
Pedal Cover now to do travel insurance. If you have your home insurance with them too then I suspect the bikes will be well covered
Never occurred to me to worry about theft of bike when in the alps, everyone just leaves em anywhere as were all in the same boat, mutual respect for bikes.
Its like driving a fancy car around Monaco, there's generally always something better around the next corner, and you'd have to be really really unlucky for someone to pick yours to steal out of all the options.
There was a spate of thefts in Morzine a couple of seasons ago. Seemed to mostly be from bikes left in communal storage that had been left open IIRC, rather than any level of breaking in. As said there are always dozens of bikes lying around unattended, unlocked so you don't need to do much to make yours less attractive to thieves (who unfortunately are everywhere)
Home insurance with away from home cover is the first point of call.
