[#9318690]

Me and Mrs Beener are off to do the NC500 in June. We will be camping and although the nc500 has some appeal as a route we have ticked, we are both a bit concerned about the final part on the E coast due to its reputation for being busy with large vehicles.

Does anyone have any suggestions for skipping that busy bit? Or maybe a route that is less coastal and more enjoyable to ride.

If anyone has a gpx file for such a route then that would be fantastic.

Thanks

Go onto the official NC500 website and you'll find a couple of options.

TBH, the East Coast route isn't too bad until after Tain, from where you can just follow NCN1.

The options include a ferry trip and/or a ride further inland. Both are worthwhile.

You could always follow NCN1 from Tongue, skipping the Caithness section, but you may feel this isn't enough of the NC500 to satisfy you.

If you don't find anything suitable, contact me when I'm back at home next week and I'll fire over a GPX file for you.

I bike packed the full route last month. There are large hgv's, especially down the East side, but I didn't find it much of an issue. Depends what you are used to I guess.
Trevor.
