[Closed] Alfine - rattling shifter

Been running an alfine set up for a couple of weeks now and really pleased so far.

Only annoyance is that the shifter rattles like hell. It is worse in certain gears and now that I have no chain slap etc, it's really noticeable.

Is this normal or do I have someting loose inside?

Haven't opened it up yet to check, as didn't want to risk it becoming totally unusable.

I get this too. I think it's caused by the gear indicator slapping about in the casing. Hacksaw it!

What Haribo said - happened to Mrs F's Alfine shifter too.

Thanks.

I'll set about it this evening in that case.

Worrying that it has happened after only 2 or 3 rides.

Obviously not that robust.

I took mine to bits, but a bit of glue on the offending bit (can't remember what the bit was as it was ages ago), but some grease on some other bits, put it back together and silence was restored ๐Ÿ™‚

Easygirl - yes it has been driving me mad too.

No matter how hard you try , you just end up focusing on it, as with the Alfine all the other drivetrain noise is eliminated.

Hopefully I will get mine sorted tonight.

mine does it too, mind between the noise of the wind, the tyres, the pi55 flap bouncing off the front tyre, and my sphincter opening and closing at ~1Hz i don't notice it much..

Have tightened up the "shifter nut", but it is still there.

Seems to be definitely coming from the "indicator"

Not bothered about having one, so is there a way of removing/disabling?

took the gear indicator off yesterday
(two small screws on top, then coated all moving parts in liberal amount of grease, reassembled, now seems to be quiet again
