Thinking is swapping to schwalbe albert and a magic Mary radial. I read lots of reviews which all state grip is better but whats its like for rolling resistance on hard pack or road transitions when racing enduro? Its a light emtb with a max of 650wh battery with the extender so not wanting to swap too much range
Ran that combo through this past winter and didn’t notice much if any extra rolling resistance over anything else I’ve used on my usual riding of woods linked by roads and bridal ways, normal bike with 1500m vert regularly
Been using both with radial casings as front tyres recently. The Mary had serious drag even at 29 psi but the grip & feel was insane. Albert felt like a lot less drag when I switched to it but still more than a Maxx Grip Assegai I'd say. Has less feel but still has silly amounts of grip at 28psi
You didn't mention compounds and carcasses except for the assegai but assuming like for like, you'll be a bit faster. Mary ultrasoft radial is a little slower than the assegai, albert is a fair bit faster than the dhr2- it's not really in the same class, it's a less toothy faster tyre. A little slower in radial.
Albert is a pretty cloggy tyre btw, obviously less a problem on the back, but also has much less wet weather grip than the dhr2, it gets pretty wild even before it clogs. Excellent in the dry but imo in the UK it's a tyre shuffler's tyre, you stick it on when it's dry and take it off as soon as it rains. I can't be doing with that so I sold it
(I know a lot of people like it but I just do not get the love for the assegai, in the uk. The clogging is just way too big a drawback. But the DHR2 is legitimately fantastic, and very hard to beat. It is not fast though)
Has anyone tried that new Romy yet ? Looks like a pretty good all rounder that could work front and back although probably without quite as much grip as a mary .
Kind of like having a dhr2 pairing.
I found Mary's faster rolling than the equivalent assegai and they worked better for me going downhill .
If the Butcher that came on my Levo ever wears out I will be putting a Mary Radial on the front (or another Shredda rear...)
But that might never happen because on Northwinds recommendation I put a rear Shredda up front on a spare wheel. Its now almost July, Calderdale is dryer than the Sahara and I'm still running it, I tried swapping back but missed the frankly insane grip on the steep lines round here 🙂
Obviously its draggier than Butcher but I'm still able to pedal up big hills with the motor off when I want to test those legs.
I've been impressed with the Eliminator on the rear, even over winter so I've bought the new radial version to try once its fully bald, its almost there after 1000 miles.
