Looks like even more of my Alpha 340 spoke holes are pulling through, I'll probably just drill new ones and rebuild, but wondered if the world of rims had moved on...

I see Open Pros are now UST, Alphas are a similar weight (so hopefully a bit more durable), is there anything else <£100 worth considering?

I fitted some Prime Pelotons on my commuter a few weeks ago. Previously had Giant PR2 discs on. Difference is night and day, the bike feels like it has a motor hidden in it. Tubeless took a while to properly seal with WTB Exposures but seems fine now. Probably not the lightest or strongest wheels out there but for £110 there's not much to complain about. Ask me again in 10 months for an opinion on durability.... if they last that long.

A few others:

Kinlin XR22T or XR31T (19mm internal width) sleeve joined and one of the best bang for buck.

Boyd Altamont Lite / Altamont (19.8mm internal) welded seam, slightly lighter, matt finish and more expensive than Kinlin equivalents.

DT Swiss RR411 (18mm internal) alternative option to Boyd Altamont Lite and slightly cheaper.

I’ve got a Pacenti sl 23 I never had built up, not particularly strong, 20 hole I think for front. £30 posted?

I'm looking at building up a new set of wheels still. So far my list is either  Dt Swiss 411 DB or new mavic open pro ust disc. Kind of leaning towards the open pros.

Aren't the Open Pros only compatible with Mavic tyres?

"Aren’t the Open Pros only compatible with Mavic tyres?"

Wow, that would be a shocker if its true! Have mavic been bought by apple?

Do you have any information on this? It doesn't say anything on the product information and you would have thought that would have been important for health and safety reasons

Kinlin 31 for me next, hoping I’ll get a bit more life out them than my Pacenti. Don’t mind sacrificing a bit of weight for durability if it works out that way, they’re not race wheels.

Do fancy building up a pair of bombproof wheels for bad conditions though, Open Pro on Hope hubs or something.

They are doing this slightly weird 'our rims go best with these tyres (also, conveniently, ours)' so I can see how you might think that.

I'll be honest I kind of feel that Mavic have taken their eye off the ball a little bit. A few years ago they were the rim to have for pretty much every type of wheel, no questions asked. Now they seem to be left behind by new hookless bead seat designs and the whole 'wide is good, wide works' thing....

Only circumstantial,  my mate had some built and the only tyre the local very competent shop could get to work tubeless were the Mavic tyres.  Apparently? The bead profile is different.  He could of course been talking out of his rear.  Dunno.

I'm running hope hubs on Open pro's, tubeless, with Schawlbe G-ones. Tight to get on, but went up easily tubeless.
