What's decent for circa 50 quid?

V11s were my first go at plastic. I’m impressed and they can be had for £40.

I recently bought a couple of pairs of boardman flat pedals from halfords. Very impressed with them - light and well made. Only had them a couple of weeks so cannot comment on longevity

They've had a price rise, and they're possibly not the best choice if you smash your pedals a lot (not through-pins).
But these are super-reliable and fine for less rocky / clumsy riding...

Why do they need to be alloy?.
I've pretty much always used Burgtecs, after dabbling in Vaults and destroying the inners quick smart, but I'm now grudging paying over a ton for a pair of pedals, and will give the composites a go.

It's a good thing that the bike I bought them for is equally delayed (and I'm broken and a shiny new bike in the shed would have me doing silly things).
Just get the plastic V11's.

I had a bad experience with Nukeproof composite pedals - might have been unlucky, but managed to break them on a rock only a few rides in.
Whilst I get the 'plastic slides on rocks' argument, they do seem more fragile and they scuff-up less pleasingly than an alloy pedal.
I'm also considering Shimano GR500s alongside the Uberbike pedals.
I've recently bought the exotic ones posted by chakaping and I've been impressed by them, pretty sturdy. Tbh I'm on my third set under different brands, they're great. Came next day too.

I dismissed composites at first, borrowed a pair of burgtecs off a mate 12 months ago after incident with rock and alloy pedal, they have been on since. Circa 40 if you can find em in stock
A few quid more but the unite co. pedals are pretty damn good. Decent size, grippy and smooth. Made in UK is a nice bonus.

i have been running these for over a year. no fuss, no slippage on anything, and still running good.

Fair point - I actually was on a thread regarding this a while ago - I bought a tonne of generic bushings, bearings and seals, so I actually have year's worth of supplies.
I haven't found them that bad. It's just the rebuild kits are preposterously expensive.

I use Superstar Nanos on all my bikes and they eat bushings at an alarming rate, but it's a cheap and easy fix if you have a thin socket and metal bar of the correct size.
The bearings rattle like a shitting dug quick smart, and tbh the body ain't too keen on rock strikes either. If it wasn't for those points, best pedals I've had.
