Off to Afan tomorrow for a cheapish get away, hope there will be camping spaces left at afan itself. Is there enough there for 3 days riding? Otherwise Ill take the hiking boots and do pen y fan on one of the days.
Also where is the closest place for a spar/coop type shop?
Never been there before do looking forward to it!!
I'm a local lad so I'd say there isn't 3 days worth of riding unless you fancy doing the same trails twice, which won't be a bad thing. You could do all the trails there in 2 days I'd say. Take your boots just in case.
Local shops are easy to get to. If you're staying in Glyncorrog there will be a local shop but big Tesco in port talbot isn't far. Other shops are closer though, all should be easy to find.
Thanks mat,
Which trails would you recommend to do?
Depends on how full a day! W2 will keep most occupied for a day. Penhydd (sic!?) will be ok for an afternoon. Blade and skyline are also reasonable options. Think they're all open at the moment?
Or just hit Cwmcarn or brechfa- both within an hours drive.
It depends how quick you are really. I went earlier this year with my family and we did 3 days riding, although my son was only 9 so a lot of the trails are an all day ride. In comparison I have been by myself and ridden everything (apart from Skyline) in 6ish hours.
Personally I would do Cwmcarn on the way (obviously depends where you are driving from). Then drive to Afan and do one or two of the trails. 2nd day head to Brechfa. 3rd day ride the bits of Afan you didn't do on day 1.
Blaengarw a couple of valleys over might be worth a visit. It's a great little circuit with a nice rock garden.
Blade is all open at the moment and is a great trail with a bit of everything.
The campsite at Glyncorrwg was looking quite empty when I was up there earlier.
