How did everyone get on?
I had a great weekend which was a fun introduction to this type of racing. Qualified 96th after nerves took their hold (must have been the waiting/baiting at the rooty section having a great laugh that caused it). Missed a couple of more obvious lines and was unsettled the whole way down but what a buzz.
Race day I managed to crawl up to 49th so happy with that. 🙂
The lucky escape was crossing the finish line of SS6 with a pinch flat hissing away nicely. Had a good laugh with my "Advesary" and good racing when the clock started. Lots of good people out there made it great fun for me. How was it for you?
Hope all the injured heal quickly.
had a great time, enjoyed the atmosphere and technical side of the the track, weather played a blinder too! i would enter this again, and do better next time!
there was talk of an entire avalanche series on the 7stanes next year! imagine, 2by2 down the slab! whoop
Top event! Had a great time and the 'follow me' approach worked really well for me and the guy I was paired with. Just wish there was more events of this format.
i loved racing against a partner who was so close to my time
2 punctures put paid to any clawing back of positions after a slow seeding run (felt fast to me though !). The 2nd being just after the fireroad section on stage 6 - having to run down the course past the crowd wasn't the most glorified way of finishing but it probably kept me from being last amongst my mates 🙂 Plus i missed out on all the fun of the drops and jumps 🙁
Next time i'll skip the light weight inner tubes and stick with the usual DH ones !
2 by 2 racing against a similarly seeded rider was a great format - certainly made me put more effort in than i intended.
Great chilled out weekend, can't believe it was'nt advertised more about Nico Voullioz turning up 🙁
There will be a UK wide Enduro series in 2011, there is a thread on here about it, type in National Enduro and it will come up, also a Facebook group under UK Gravity Enduro
I loved it it was a great atmosphere. My first ever race I'd definitely do another.
Opened my eyes to how much faster good riders are than me.
I'm hoping 10UTB is as much fun
Great weekend, finished 148th which I'm quite happy with, could maybe have gone faster but I think I'd have crashed!
The UK Enduro series sounds interesting, any news on the venues yet?
It was a fun weekend for sure, and it didn't rain.
Was the guy who stacked at the wee step-up ok? He didn't look great as i passed (as the marshal was looking after him)
A light xc bike served me well. Was very amused as the rear tube finally gave up as i put the bike in the van, lucky it didn't go on SS6
My spare bike finished 13th, not with me on it though!
The guy that crashed at the step up was #125, it looked like (and he was about 3' in front of me(#126) at the time!) he over-cooked the left-hand line and washed out into the drainage ditch.
I stopped briefly but the medics were already there so I figured I'd leave them to it (not really sure about the ethics in that situation to be honest. Obviously if there'd been no medics I'd have stopped though!) Last I heard he'd a broken femur.
I did keep an eye out for him at the finish but I guess he was in A+E by then. If anyone know's him (Irish lad, think his name was Liam(?) said he was getting the ferry back last night) pass on my best wishes.
The head-to-head racing was pretty intense and made for great racing in all the stages up to that one for me. And I really noticed _not_ having anyone to race against for the remaining stages and my times probably suffered too.
A great weekend though with a relaxed format broken only by leg shredding sections of sprinting downhill! Definitely more of this for me.
slw...you are my new hero. Thanks for the Blur
Ant - nice result btw. I posted you up on our FB page.
Well done chick (Mikey Thickens) in 4th,not that much of a suprise if you seen the demented squirrel on speed ride a bike before. Not bad for 1st season in seniors tho!!!
any pics up yet?
frag, theres one of Kev in that set!
SLW... you got one of me! Don't suppose you would mind emailing me a copy? My email address is in my profile. Some really nice pics there
Sorry, scratch that... realised I can download it from flickr. Thanks for the shot.
any more of these this season? was feeling great at GT at the weekend, and want to test my mad skillz...
loads in France
Kona mash-up is a similar set up.
Mash up is a bit cack in comparison. The course was challenging at Ae. Fitness and tech. Mash up was just a bit..mheh. IMO Ae needed to be 1-2 stages longer to make it a bit more of a challenge but what was in was awesome. Truly awesome.
Agree, the Mash Up is not in the same league as the Avalanche Enduros.
Great pics there mate!
the mash-up is also a lot cheaper(and you got a T)! for a beginner there is nothing wrong with them.
schpleep- the medics thought it was a broken femur, but i was down in the shop and he walked into the ambulance. the medics down there were talking about his humerous which makes sense to what was looking painful.
there was someone else who attempted to roll the step down on stage 6 in practice but ended up using his face on the landing. he was taken off to hospital, but nothing too bad was the update i heard.
all round it was a good weekend. made better by meeting nico while he was having lunch on the saturday. the results are now up on the website for anyone wanting to check out the times (in case someone had missed it).
Still buzzing.
Mashup is only one day though. Ae was practice, Seeding then race day.
A few here,

Brilliant shots, you even got one of me mincing down the final boardwalk!
Glad you enjoyed the pics, taken by a mate. He'll be wondering where all the hits are coming from.
Thanks for the update defaultslipper Hope he made it home in the end and well done to the medics for being there so quickly (it was almost like they were waiting for an accident to happen ;o)
A top weekend indeed. Looking forward to Oliver Coates' photos when they appear too.
BuggerNot excellent prep for racing
OUCH!
It was an awesome weekend. Really enjoyed having that friendly competitive element and everyone was brand new. I've never ridden that hard in my life and it did reveal areas where I'm not very skilled at all. Looking forward to more photos coming out.
A few more here,

This guy usually puts up a load of pics for sale, i'm sure more will appear on his website soon.
i forgot to ask. does anyone know where the young guy on the trax bike finished? he came into the shop o nboth days complaining about his bike falling to pieces. someone had stolen his bike before the event and so he went down to halfords and bought a cheap 90 pound job. by accoutns he was going pretty quick, but i didn't get his name or number. will have a look through the photos when i have time but think he deserves credit for hammering that bike way beyond what it was intended for!
think he was 246 he came over the line at the end with blood on his legs, arms, face etc. Got a round of applause and a cheer. VERY WELL DESERVED
see him a few times over the weekend, think most would have gave up!
That boy on the Trax was astonishing in his perseverance. He descended the natural bit in the qualifier faster than some of the boys on 6" bikes. All credit to him. He came off SS6 with some nasty blood coming from under his helmet but he look OK.
Additionaly, I saw that someone in the top 100 on Sunday had a Go Pro camera on his chest. Just wondering if he is on STW as I'd love to see some footage of the day.
79 quid to be exact AND their is a rumour going round that he cycled from France!!
I have a vid of him crashing on it.
he is a legend!
he is a complete hero! I loved it, needed to be fitter though I was blowing out of my arse on some of it! Pretty pleased with 22nd! My mate got 3rd and was on the podium with Nico, I think he got a lob on!!!!!! Got to say though the timing was a bit of a disaster the abject failure of some the marshalls to wave the wand properly totally ruined my missuses result and denied her a well deserved podium! She was so angry , and I had to ride back in the car with her!
Got to say though the timing was a bit of a disaster
marshalls all volunteered and i know quite a few of them having done a few trailbuilding sessions. a couple of them had driven down from glasgow just to help out so don't go moaning about them. if there was a timing issue surely it would have been better to talk to the organisers and maybe suggest alternative timing techniques for the future?
i am sorry to hear that the timing has caused a problem for your wife, but having a go at the marshalls isn't the best solution- i am sure they didn't deliberately do it.
The question is...if they were all volunteers, where did my £55 go? I think it was more the system that was at fault...i had a cam on for all my runs and the official times were out by 5secs to 1 min 19...some up, some down...infact they only got 1 stage right!
I noticed 1 girl getting missed by the wand and having to go back and got "swiped" after the girl who was slower.
Like you have said, not the fault of the marshal or the girl going through too fast, just a grey area which needs improving.
Anyway, first 3 videos for now...not quite got the hand of editing and the like so they are pretty rough!
