So for a while I've been using an old rucsksack on my rides. But it's too big and a bit of a faff. However, all the hydration packs I look at don't look that much better. Around the kids I usually get about 2 hours to ride. All the packs look like they offer 2-3 litres of water capacity (Which I don't need) but not space for anything else. I want something with space for gubbins like multi-tool, spare tube, banana, map, phone etc. I've also got a platypus so don't necessarily need a pack with one built in
So...
What pack has enough room for gubbins without being stupidly big? Can you help me out?
Uswe airborne, small and perfect for minimal carrying.doesnt move around either
just bought a camelback repack. 1.5L bladder and enough space for a few tools/phone etc. might struggle with the map though.
only turned up today though so haven't tried it yet but hoping it will be better than carrying around a vertually empty mule apart from the bladder.
will pair it with a bottle on the frame for big rides.
@bigfoot - yes, I think that's what I'm trying to avoid - more water than I need on a short ride but no space for stuff...
Osprey Talon 6 lumbar pack (it's not a bumbag honest 😉)
Perfect size for shorter rides, fits in all you need, no more sweaty back, comes with 2 nice bottles.
I've not used a rucksack in the 2 years or so since getting mine. For all day rides I just use a small frame bag as well.
Camelback have a huge range, must be something in there. As for capacity, just don't fill it..
i have an uswe airbourne 3, best pack i have ever had small compact and you don't know you have it on, there strap system is better than anything else on the market and i have tried them all, camlebak, osprey, evoc, dakine etc
After seeing one in Jonny’s pics ^^ I now have a USWE airborne 3. Brilliant pack IMO. I’ve spent 2 years without a back pack using bottles only and I’ll be using the USWE for BeMC and without the tool pocket for hydration only on the Scott Marathons to avoid feed stops.
Keeps pockets available for other stuff, it very good quality, the harness system is excellent and after years of Camelbak the Hydropak bladder is a bit of a revelation to me.
I'm going to recommend the Evoc Hip Pack Race.. you can use it with a 1.5l bladder and / or a bottle and you can fit a surprising amount of stuff in it (or just the essentials).
