[Closed] Advice / Opinions on Maxxis 'double down' casings....

Hi all,

Wondered if anyone had any experience with double down casings from Maxxis?

I have just bought a maxxis aggressor 2.3 for the rear of my new 120mm hardtail after reading reviews that they are a good option for the rear. When the tyre arrived it appears crc have sent the double down casing version possibly in error.

Will the double down version still be 'pedallable' for trail/ hard xc work or is it the tool for downhill / full sus enduro bikes?? In which case I will have to return it etc...

If it matters there's a minion DHF for front tyre duties.

Any thoughts/comments or advice well received!

Thanks !

Andy

Me and mate both ran them in Spain and neither one of us got a single puncture. Be using them again next year when we go back.

I use the WTB ‘Tough’ casing almost always and it’s a similar construction and weight.

It’s probably the wrong tyre if you’re s competitive XC racer, but for all other MTB purposes if you like the tread, use it ...

It was the 2.3 Aggressor we were using. Agree wouldn't recommend them for XC racing but fine for everything else.

Ah, sounds like it might be worth keeping anyway!

I've already got a set of R'Rons for xc duties waiting ...

Sounds like the aggressor will be ideal for Dalby etc !

Hurry up summer!

DHF wt on the front, Aggressor DD on the rear is my standard tyre choice for around the Peak, Basque etc.

As above but replace DHF with DHR2. Also ride the same and all
Over Wales, The Lakes, been to Scotland with them too, Antor Stiniog etc .. and I find them great

Ran a Tomahawk DD through the summer, really didn't notice the extra weight at all. I'll always run a DD out back from now on for the extra security.

As with all tyre choices, it depends. I personally wouldn't use one on a 120mm trail hardtail. They are approx 200gms heavier of rotational weight. But then I don't ride where you or some of the others on this thread ride.

It depends where and how you ride.

I run a double down aggressor out back in he Lakes and it is a good solid tyre. It is lighter than dual ply and heavier than EXO.

The Aggressor is quite a good compromise for rolling resistance and weight considering it survives plenty of Lakeland rock. It is scrap on wet grass (not enough tread).

Thanks for the info gents, the maxxis tyres are just for when I'm riding in the uk.

The local trails at home are more fire road and xc routes with not much in the way of obstacles, for this stuff the rocket rons are perfect (I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th set!)
