My riding buddy has a 3 year old Canyon Neuron which is great but is till on the OE Conti Mountain King III in 29 X 2.3.
She only does xc or light trail stuff but I am trying to boost her confidence to tackle slightly more challenging stuff by giving her tips.
Would she also benefit from fitting those Hans Dampf 2.35 Performance? It used to be a cheap line in the past but not sure now. Do they come up tubeless well? They are really good value at £42 for a pair although isn't she going to have to work harder on XC routes?
I was always a weight weenie and ran light tires on every bike to make pedalling as easy as possible and win the scale wars.
I started to see the light and recognised that the tires were definately a limiting factor.

However, if I want to feel like I'm half fit and still try to go downhill fast, I'll grab my Spark. It has your friends mk3 tire out back, but I paired it with a Baron up front. The front tire makes less difference to the speed/effort than the rear but it's nice to have a more confident front tire that goes where you want it to with significantly more grip in all directions than the 2.3 mk3

I'd actually equally happily pair the Baron with a cross king rear (still with tubolite sl insert)

Summary, bigger front tire for the confidence, same or similar "fast" rear if she likes it but step up to the black chilli compound as the white logo o.e product isn't great.

Thank you, that makes an awful lot of sense.
How much of a grip upgrade is the linked Hans Dampf compared to her current front Conti, if at all?
