[#2267755]

hello lovely bikey people,

i would like to buy a helmet cam as a christmas gift but, being a non-bikey person, have no idea about which one to buy! i've looked at half a dozen different websites and am totally confused now.

the person i'm buying for does both road and mountain biking, goes out in all weathers, and has as many different helmets for cycling occasions you can imagine. so, i think i need something lighter weight, water (or at least splash) proof with a universal fitting. and if it costs around £100 that would be fab. is this an impossible wish list for that price?

any recommendations for a helpless eejit who wants to make a cyclist happy this christmas would be most welcome.

ta muchly lovely people 🙂

There was a group test on cameras in the magazine a while back. It might be on this site too

Bit more than a £100 but you can get the ContourHD helmet cams off eBay from the US for a lot cheaper and many sellers will mark a low value on the package so it isn't caught by customs.
These come with a flat surface mount and a goggle mount but you can get a vented helmet mount/bar mount separately for not too much.

the atc rarely gets good reviews...also, think about the mounting and the gopro std def with chesty mount seems the best option for mtb. The contour did not get such a good review in an old mag i have as it was too heavy for helmet mount on a trail helmet.

I'd also recommend avoiding the Oregon.
Used one on a ski helmet and the mounting was crap, quite a heavy camera too.

I've got one of the Oregon ATC's and would agree that they're not that good (although they can sometimes be found very cheap). I've got a non-HD GoPro as well now and it's in a completely different league, especially when used with the chest strap.

i have the chest strap for the NON HD Gopro and i would say that the handle bar mount is a lot better but thats my opinion
