If they insist on PayPal gift I send it normal PayPal then "gift" them the few quid that PayPal have knocked off.
And if I'm expecting some total stranger to furnish me with a few hundred pounds on the basis that I'll be good enough to honour the deal then I'm more than happy to give them some proof of who I am.

Hope it works out OP, there's nowt queer as folk & some folk have a strange interpretation of what most would consider the right thing to do. I'd refund at the first sight of trouble.

Good luck.
And hope the lad had a good birthday despite.

just use a fee calculator to figure what you need to send for them to get the correct amount.

if someone is insisting on gift, then they are scammers!

glad you got your money back OP

I just got contacted by Mr Tim Lott regarding a WTD ad I put up this evening for some wheels. Has anyone else had any dealings with him?

I have just had a dealing with him(singlesteed AKA Tim Lott)
He contacted me after I put an add on the wanted section,he contacted me via Email and we did a deal on a pair of hope/stans wheels that it turns out he'd already sold to someone else,,accepted my money and then refunded it a few days later due to unforeseen circumstances.
After a bit of digging I managed to get hold of the person who'd already bought the wheels and they are waiting for them to be shipped. Very dodgy, luckily I used the goods and services option on paypal but he did say Gift would be preferable.
