[#3928797]

After doing a wee tour for 3 consecutive days, i felt a sharp pain in my Achilles on the days after. it didn't get any better but did dull down but yesterdays 40 miler has left me with more pain in the heel area.

A call to the GP tomorrow is on the cards but i'm just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with their Achilles?

kind regards

I tend to drop my saddle a touch if my dodgy Achilles is playing up. It seems to help.

Yes here and absolutely fed up with it. Mine appears to be brought on by a lot of bony growths (osteophytes) on my feet, for which I have had surgery but can't get rid of them. These then irritate the achilles, I think.

I re-started running at the end of last year, and was pushing it hard in order to build fitness for the bike but then had another really bad flare-up in my achilles - so bad I had to come into work on crutches-bad. Am having a course of physio which seems to just involve a lot of stretching and balancing from what I can see, but they are still both playing up. Physio has persuaded me against my better judgement to attend a pilates class (more bloody stretching), I've only agreed as she wore me down and I'm prepared to try almost anything now to get them to ease up.

Apologies for the semi-rant but I am fed up with the problems. I am led to believe that cyclists are prone as (like me) we tend to have very tight hamstrings.

I'm currently waiting for TOPAZ surgery for my scarred Achilles - 6 weeks in a 'boot' then start the physio all over again.

I've done a lot of this Achilles Physio but wish I did more stretching when I was a younger.

Pilates and physio help manage it + had to see three different GPs to finally get 'noticed'. At 42 I shouldn't really be coveting walking sticks. I was shocked by the varied advise I got from different NHS folk - hospital consultant was amused too. (?)

if its any consolation, 18 months after first having my achilles flare up, it's still flaring up.

Like freeride_frankie I snapped mine two years ago. I had been having trouble with mine for a while.
Turned out I am flat footed. This has meant that instead of the achilles tendon going straight up and down the back of the leg, it bows out toward the ankle. I always had problems after long walks and football.
Shoes with good instep support or inserts from places like Boots help.
