fist ride on a bike with one gear for about 3 months and my goodness did it hurt, blimey gears do flatter your fitness, thankfully the lighter nights are here so i can only improve 😐
I wanna live where u do, bikes grow on trees!

nice
nice looking machine, thought one of the advantages of a SS was less to clean in the winter muddy months, not just a light nights ride 🙂
i've been indulging in the FS lifestyle though and have gone soft!
Just remember
if it doesn't kill you it will only get you fitter
Or shag your knees...
WHITE GRIPS You TART!
never found knee's an issue. Maybe I have been lucky (so far), but I do a lot of time trials so leg strength is good so maybe I don't notice it.
knees are fine 🙂
That would look lovely if you extended the white to the tyre sidewalls.
Would look like Travolta's car in "Grease".
🙂
I predict the future.
A pic of a badly maintained drive will appear...
Will you talk me through your build i'm looking to build up a new single speed, been looking at a couple of on*ones but i really like the look of this.
Voodoo Wanga frame (19")
hope hubs with shimano bmx cog (17T)
mavic 517 rims
Avid BB7 discs
LX HTII crank and BB
race face XY post
Flite saddle
Thomson stem
easton EA 50 bars
RS Revs (set to minimum travel, could really do with a Reba or similar)
anything else you wanna know?

How much it set you back? You should be running a 16 on the back that'll test your fitness 🙂 Cheers for the info.
does look good RocketDog, quite enough white forr me (not a big fan of white). What chain ring have you got to match the 17? I tend to ride the "traditonal 32x16"
i yea forgot that, it's a spot 34T
What's with the Eighteen chainstay protector on the wrong side?
Alfonzo, frame cost £198, rest of stuff is just what i had lying around, its had a few incarnatons including...

very nice!
ok, 34T is not too good, it's fairly flat where I ride so 32x16 suites fine. But I may play with other ratios shortly
Is that a bell on the bar in the 1st pick? 😯
allways had a bad impression about bells, but tbh if ppl are around they are quite useful 😐
yup, bell came in handy down some singletrack earlier, gave early warning to an old codger who then had time to gather his dogs in an allowed me to pass unhindered, very civilised are bells 🙂
love that Voodoo...I have been quite frustrated on my SS so bought a geared Klien Attitude with hydraulic discs and front suspension...been out on it twice and want to convert it to SS and make it fully rigid!
Maybe I have the bug 😉
Maybe I should go the whole hog and get a hair shirt or something?
"almost" thinking of fitting one, on the trails on sat, bikey was using one and I could honesty see the avantaage, god I must be getting old!
people hear a bell and 99% of the time know exactly what it means, i.e. 'i am here and would like to pass please' rather than shouting, braking hard to skid so the walkers hear etc etc, much more civil and evryone stays happy after the encounter, a win win situation if you will
some bells look quite nice these days 😉
plus if there are more than one of you with bells you get the advantage of playing a tune 🙂
lol
"34T is not too good, it's fairly flat where I ride so 32x16 suites fine"
34:17T is the same ratio as 32:16T
Er, no it isn't.
Btw, your Voodoo looks very similar to mine 'cept mine has a brown Spoon saddle, and brown grips!
"Er, no it isn't"
Am I being stupid again?
34:17 = 2:1
32:16 = 2:1
no?
(= should be equivalent)
MrSparkle - MemberEr, no it isn't.
I'm intrigued. How is 34:17 not the same ratio to 32:16?
is 22:16 or 22:18 any good and what sort of riding would it be for?
weelies, about all your 8" forked sub5'd be safe for anyway, just be carefull when putting the front wheel down.
Er, no it isn't.
Er, yes it is. As is 36:18. Or 44:22 and so on.
FACT 🙂
ive changed mind about sub5 now anyways reebas or revs and the ss
was goin on a malt1
Er, no it isn't.
Er, shoosh.
"is 22:16 or 22:18 any good and what sort of riding would it be for?
Not a lot
If you must use a 22T ring, an 11T (smallest on a typical ring 8/9spd casette) will give you 2:1, the typical MTB singlespeed ratio
2:1 is the way to go either 32:16 or 34:17
Er, ok then. Yes it is! maths was never my strong point.
i have 36:15 but only for the road and its a little high to be honest
I had my first singlespeed blast round nant today, in a blaze of rage last night I fitted my only singlespeed kit to my 456. I was running 32:18 and I have to say that it wasn't as bad as I had been expecting (still knackering though), might obtain a 17T or 16T at some point to really test me :D.
what ratio for uphills and on flat around oxenhope/hebdenbridge? (west yorks for you sutherners)
tom (taka) - what ratio for uphills and on flat around oxenhope/hebdenbridge? (west yorks for you sutherners)
what? are you planning on swapping your gear when you get to the top of the hill?
ratio depends on your fitness and how much you are willing to push
You don't need a bell if you have a pro 2 🙂
what ratio for uphills and on flat around oxenhope/hebdenbridge? (west yorks for you sutherners)
32:16
2:1 is a bit easy to be honest in normal places but in Calderdale it should be fine. I run 34:16 offroad on the East Lancs moors and that's great although I've found 38:16 with 700c wheels works well too.
