[#10127819]

So as is customary I'm looking at building a bike around a single bit ..... In this case a fork.

This week I was kindly given a RockShox SID fork that has a 1 1/8" steerer and a 160mm steerer.

As our eldest is getting close to outgrowing his 20" Frog 55 I've been stockpiling parts. Sadly the frames I have have too longer HTs - the 14" Scandal has a 105mm HT and requires an external headset - bugger. The Dr Jekyll frame a longer HT again.

So I could use another fork ...... Buy a new CSU but where is the fun in that?

Top of the SH shortlist is a XS Cotic BFe but anyone know of anything off of the peg that I am obviously missing?

Plan would be to run it with 24" wheels at first.

Can the STW hive help ....... By selling me a XS BFe ....... I mean suggesting some frames?

Cheers,

Mark

Like your thinking there Rich 😎 But think they were all 1 1/8" HTs 🤔

Cannondale F900SL (other HT from C'dale are available) with an adaptor.

I sold a 12.5"/XS last year.

Edit: see here

Dialled Holeshot

Having researched this a few years back three times, most jumpy/4x/gnar bikes are small vertically but still quite long.

I built up an xs Commencal Normal frame for my daughter, turned out to be a great little bike.

Can't link on my phone, but search my history for a thread something like "the bike STWย  built"

No ideas from me....But does that mean you have a surplus on one scandal?

I have also been looking at a ragley, piglet might fit the bill?

Get a step down lower headset and you can get a tapered frame instead and that opens up a whole load of options.

you can use any headset with adaptors for a straight steerer.ย  don't just look for 44mm headsets.ย  the main issue you will have is finding a small enough frame.

What about an XS Soul with a tapered headtube? The missus has one with an internal lower headset and 1 1/8 steerer fork and it's a smidgeon over 160mm from the fork crown to the headset top cap - that's with a Thomson stem, sure you could find something shorter if necessary, but I reckon it would fit okay.

Small Giant STP

Seat tube is 14" and the (rarer) smalls have 22" top tubes (reach of sub 400mm). and they all use 44mm semi integrated headsets.
I happen to have one I'd sell.
PM if interested.

In the same vein as tarting up carrera Blast/Luna's as 24" kids bikes, what about looking for a cheap 26" carrera 'Vulcan' in XS? I think they've got 44mm head tubes and should be a reasonable weight for aย  hild to manage depending on how it's built up...

Thanks for all the responses 😎

@benpinnick - sadly the need for an external top cup on a tapered frame rules out all the XS frames I've seen so far. Thoughts were with a 44mm HT I could run an integral 1 1/8" cup top and bottom. Result a 100mm HT is little over 105mm with headset leaving "loads" of scope with my paltry 160mm 😂

@dirkpitt74 - sadly nothing in 26". Running 24" wheels in a 27.5" frame might be pushing it!

@badlywireddog - good work. Will add it to the list!

@geex - could you let me have some more details?

@cookeaa - added to the list!

@higgi - I suspect the HT will be too long 😞

Commencal Normal frame here for a pint of decent beer. I may be able to post it now as I bought a frame last week and now have a box for it.

I dont know what 44m HT means, so it may not be suitable

Located Leicester. I'm in Ebbw Vale for work for the next few weeks.

Would you be after frame only? Frame fork and headset.? Everything bar wheels? Rolling chassis (26") or full bike?

Can PM you details of any of the above options
