As the title asks, will I be able to use a 9spd xt Rear derailleur with shimano stx 7spd shifter and 7 spd cassette? This will be to bling up my son's 24" specialized hotrock, or will he have to be stuck with the shimono tourney that is on there at the mo?

that is great, recent upgrades to his bike include Easton monkeylites, ritchey wcs seatpost, spesh toupe ti saddle , lock on grips, xt v brakes and a ligter stem, it looks ace ๐Ÿ˜€
He did his first xc race 2 sundays ago in the u/10's. he cant wait for the next one at crowthorne in the new forest.

Crow Hill, not the Gorrick venue Crowthorne, make sure you get the right one...

Glad he's enjoying it, he started at a great venue, Bordon was an awesome course, hopefully the shortened lap still got some of the good bits!
