So I had my eye on these waiting for my bonus on Wednesday, just my luck they've been sold 🙁

https://www.bird.bike/product/ex-demo-dt-swiss-350-sp-m502-dhf-aggressor-27-5-shimano-freehub/

To be fair, I have spare tyres and tubeless stuff to set some other wheels up.

These are either to go on my hard tail or to go on the Aeris (so I can use the existing Hopetech Enduros on the the hard tail).

From previous threads, my options seem to be Superstar, or the Merlin wheels that work out about £160 a set. I could always go second hand if I see some for sale.

There's the new Hopetech 35w ones, but that might be stretching my budget a bit as it's a long wait till the end of January 🙂

Any obvious ones I've missed? Oh and ideally wouldn't mind the inner width to be 25mm+

The newer Superstar Alpine and DHX-pro are both 30mm internal widths....the Alpine comes pre built on their flashy new hubs that might be stretching the budget a bit...but I think you can use the custom wheel builder section and spec them on the cheaper Switch hubs (which are excellent and easily serviced at home), they should come in on your budget then.

I have the DHX but I mostly ride uplift days at the moment, they're heavier and have a marginally wider outside rim width but the same 30mm internal I think, lovely looking and the local bike shop built them up on my existing Superstar Tesla hubs easy enough, they are easily under your budget as the rims were only about £80 in one of their sales earlier this year...pre built by Superstar on Switch hubs they would be a good bet for really rough riding.

Cheers deviant for that summary.

I did have some of the older 26" AMX wheels on my first bike and liked those. Definitely an option to consider.

I like Superstar wheels but I wouldn't want to spend that much on a pair, especially not until the new hubs are proven.

I picked up a nearly new Hope/DT EX471 wheelset for under £200 off ebay recently, maybe see what's about secondhand if you don't need boost hubs - people are selling their non-boost wheels off now.

I flogged a very nice set of Crossmax XL for £330 a few months ago.

I'll have a look at the JRA Traildog.

Yeah, I know what you mean Chakaping. On one hand, the warranty/crash replacement etc would be nice, but I could probably get some nice second hand wheels for similar money.

I'll ask what's about. A nice chap has offered me some Mavic Crossmax XL for £350 ono, but the rims are a little narrower than what I'm after.

Edit*
Hmm, tempted by the Traildog wheels. They seem good value too. Would you say they are better than Hope Tech Enduro wheels or pretty equal?

Reason I ask is because I could get the decals to match either the Yellow/Black Commencal Meta or the Blue Aeris 🙂

Give JRA a call, they're honest blokes and won't sell you something which isn't to your liking. I would have recommended popping in to see them if you're South Yorkshire based (and could have put a ride in at Wharncliffe/Greno) but just seen on their website they've moved to York...

I'm more towards Wigan/Leigh, so might be a bit of a trip 🙂

JRA are at the top of the list so far and from what I've read about the hubs, they seem like decent quality (weight doesn't bother me).

Unless I see any second hand bargains, I'll probably be going for those. Still kicking myself over missing those DT wheels from Bird!

Got some WTB i25 KOM built onto Hope pro 2 Evo hubs by 18 Bikes that I'm thinking of selling or having rebuilt with 29er rims. She will be on a 29er for next season.

These were built up for Abigale as spare wheels if needed when competing, but have not been used. They have been on the bike to make sure they were alright but have not been ridden.

Drop me an email if you are interested

I wouldn't fuss too much about the internal width of the rims. I've gone from 30mm down to 22.5 & it really, really makes sod all difference.

Race results haven't changed, general feel hasn't changed. It's complete non issue.

Want some XM1501's? Got some for sale second hand 🙂

Tracey, I'll email you 🙂

Hob Nob, I don't know what is is but I just preferred how the wider rim made the tyre feel. It might just be a placebo, but I liked how wide my Roval wheel were (27mm) compared to my Hope (23mm).

Missus uses the Roval now as they were a bit low spoke count for my heft 🙂
