I know this subject is never far from this forum but I've genuinely been trawling through the search function and can't find an answer so please stay with me.
I'm 184cm tall or 6ft 1in and caught between the 18" and 20" frames. I want it for the obvious agressive nature and slack geometry but at the same time would like to take it out on all day epics too. Anyone around the same height care to comment about experiences with these frames? More than likely be going with a 50mm stem if that makes any difference?
Oh and going out in a bit so I don't have time to ring On-one just now(ideally I'd liked to order it tonight before they close up for relocation tomorrow afternoon)
As i mentoned I'm going out in a bit, so thanks in advance to replies. Except ones trying earnestly to convince me I need something else entirely...like a 29er singlespeed or something.
One of the guys I ride with sold his 18" 456SS to a friend of mine - the former is 6'2" and he'd ridden it as his often single-speed rigid-forked winter bike happily for years, the latter is 5'10". I'm 5'10" too but it felt a bit big on me.
At 6 1 you should get an 18". 90mm stem and layback post, perfect!
If you go for 20", it will at times feel too big, especially on the rough stuff!
18 definitely - I'm 6ft and rode the 18 and at times it felt a little too big.
I'm 6'2" have been riding an 18 since they came out. 60mm stem with an inline 400mm post right to end. Good fit for pedalling up hills. Have tried a 20" felt like a gate. They have quite long reach and have a longish wheel base with a 140mm fork.
Ok, cool, thanks for that. How is the summer season for big days in the hills? Got a fair bit of long days on natural trails in the highlands planned so would need to do a fair old bit of pedalling...
I'm just on 6' and the 18" was too big....ish for the way I like to ride.
Used mine for a lot of big days out, Sligachan / Torridan / long days in the lakes etc. Goes up hills fine, I wouldn't swap it for anything else. I have a 140mm u-turn fork which helps on long climbs some of the time. It is very slack though so probably a bit of a love hate thing with em.
Ok think that's sealed it Trailrat! Thanks everyone.
