I've got a new frame on the way and it's got a 44mm headset. All being well I'll be getting some tapered to fit and need a headset to suit.

What's good out there at a reasonable price? Ideally want to avoid the cost of Hope so does that leave me with Cane Creek and Nukeproof?

Ta.

Worth paying that extra for Hope IME.

Had the nukeproof one on my 44m headtube with a tapered steerer, worked great, no probs, i'd happily have another.

Got both hope and nukeproof in our group. Hope hasn't been any more reliable than the nukeproof.

Hope pick and mix means you can get exactly which versions you need.

Good lord how times have changed that Hope is seen as the 'expensive' choice!

Cheers all.

geetee1972,I don't view it as the expensive option, that's reserved for King, Acros etc. It's that it sits in a price bracket that is more than I may need to spend.

I have a Hope 1.5" - 1 1/8" reducer headset in my downhill bike and it's been fine but that's not really a good measure of longevity in normal riding conditions (and it came with frame so wasn't fitted out of choice).

I generally go by service intervals...and none of my Hopes have even needed regreasing in 18 months of all conditions use.

I've got a six pack racing one and I'd get another again.

I have hope headsets on both my bikes and would recommend them, you need the pick & mix cups 2 and H.
Nukeproof 44IETS will do the same job for less money, just won't last as long.

Do I dream that some Canecreek can take Hope bearings?
