The rules state no bar extensions - does this include bar ends?

No bar ends allowed and flat bars must be less than 50cm wide

The Three Peaks rules are an entirely artificial construct based solely on the organiser's whims.

There is no "why". The only answer is "because".

And frankly, why shouldn't it be?

Well that, and the need to negotiate access with the landowners.

Precisely Stu_N.
Which is what makes it such a unique and amazing event, IMO.

51, 52...where would it end?
๐Ÿ˜‰
I reckon they should ban flat bars completely.

The equipment regs came in largely as a result of the earlier attempts by Dave Baker, Tim Gould et al who used very lightweight cross bikes up hill, then mountainbikes downhill.

The idea is that it's a cyclocross race, with many years of tradition behind it, and the regs are an attempt to preserve as much of the race character as possible.

Only 124 allowed on sfb's rides.

we thought it was ironic on Sunday when someone asked, "Why are there only 5 on the Bog Trotter ride? Don't you always have 30 ?" - but of course there were over 30 STWers :o)

ask a simple question.......

A slipped disc in my ageing back means I'll cripple myself doing it on drops at the moment, though I'd prefer to ride drops - just because it seems right.
SFB - why don't you enter and try it? You're clearly intrigued, or you wouldn't be loitering here trying to get a rise out of folk. I seem to recall you quite like the fast food trails at Whinlatter having previously slated them?
Live and let thrive fella.

SFB, you've got nothing to say and you're saying it too loudly. There WILL be over 400 people that choose to live by the rules and enter anyway, with or without you, now just drop it eh?

I'm not quite sure what to make of that figure - if anything - presumably taking part does not actually endorse the rules

with or without you, now just drop it eh?

unlikely :o)

it'd explain a lot but I don't think that's the true cause. Large ego and bizarre attention-seeking are my top bets.

clicked on the "entry form" tab, and nothing.......

the entry forms were removed at around 11am as they reckon they already had excessive demand.

good luck to anyone who did get a form and is putting an entry in, i've ridden the last two events and it is a great event.

Thank god I'm to late to get an entry form. Last year was 5hrs of torment,It'll be at least another year of two before I try and enter again. Good luck to everyone on your entrys,it seems to get more popular every year.

it seems to get more popular every year

if the numbers are limited is this based on:
a) entry closed sooner?
b) more spectators?
c) more people moaning they can't get in?

or d) all of the above.

don't forget e) SfB moaning more and more about something the more popular it is and therefore the more of an niche position he can take by being against it..

e) SfB moaning more and more about something the more popular

you misunderstand me - I have nothing against the event, of which I have only said:
oh yes, THE RULES...
and never ask why...
yeah, 51cm bars would totally ruin it
it may be clear to you... what interests me is slavish conformity to arbitrary rules, "because".
I'm not quite sure what to make of that figure - if anything - presumably taking part does not actually endorse the rules

which don't exactly consitute criticism - but if so many immediately jump to defend the rules against even imagined sleights what are we to conclude ?
