Have switched to a 2x9 set up on my FS bike and was wondering on the chain length. Have read about big-big rings plus a couple of links - is this about right?
Have noticed that the rear mech is very stretched when i use middle ring and largest sprocket on the cassette - which would be 36 up front and 34 at the rear. Is the mech okay at this stretch?
cheers

How stretched? If the pedals go tight then it's too stretched! Otherwise it's probably alright, it's not really a great gear to be using after all.
mech look almost horziontal - have started to flick to granny (26t) and use 3rd 4th sprockets at the back which i never used to
It should be fairly stretched but there should still be some slack in it if you push the chain running from the rear mech bottom jockey wheel to the bottom of the chainring up - eg it shouldn't be completely taut.
There should be enough to run big- big, don't forget to allow for chain growth as you move through the travel. The best way to be sure is to put it in big- big, remove the shock and move the back end to full travel and check that the mech isn't quite at full stretch.
cheers folks
