My new company are doing the bike to work scheme and I'm thinking about getting a 29er,any recommendations for what to get, can be rigid or a hardtail, depending on what is out there.

Cheers

I had been looking at on-one 29er but they don't seem to have the groupsets in stock to try to build up a bike. they do have alfines in stock tho...

also tempted by the cotic roadrat, has anyone bought a geared version through cotic? they only have a singlespeed as a full bike on the site.

any other things I should be looking at?

I have to say my unit is a tank, although it looks nice and has brand cred in certain circles.

Singular?

Sam, do you do full bikes? Will be considering a 29er when the current bike 2 work bike is paid up...

Not me directly but we can certainly sort something out through one of the shops.

the swift does look very nice, to do bike2work would I need to do it through my LBS? I'm guessing it might be quite tight to do it all under £1k, with the frame and forks at £400.

I was camped next to the Singular team at 24/12 and their bikes looked beautiful. Chatting to the owner regarding whether a 29er is right for me and he seemed really well informed and enthusiastic. Did I mention their bikes were smashing too?

a week after building up my Swift i've found it extremely comfy and i've not been at all banged up by the rigid fork, which i found with P2s etc, i'm impressed, bit nice for commute though unless you have somewhere safe to put it while your working?

I can see the office bike rack from my desk, so it should be fairly safe. there are a couple of nice bikes in there at the moment so it should be ok.

Sam - If you're still around, have you, or any of the shops that you stock, done any Bike2Work bikes? Have you managed to put any together for under a grand?

Mango - yes, head for the hills have done a few cyclescheme bikes and can come in around a grand for a geared rigid bike with modest components, or 'quite decent' parts as an SS. I've stopped doing build kits and complete bikes directly myself.
